I have not used them myself. Personally, I use the Swans M200's.
But I know people that have tried these, and they love them. You can consider them entry-level audiophile powered bookshelf speakers, which will give you far superior clarity and sound quality than any other "multimedia" speaker set from Logitech, Creative, etc. -

Doubt they eill have much bass though, if any at all

Decent powered bookshelf speakers will have plenty of bass - more than enough for sitting a few feet away from them.
However, the bass is not what some people coming from "multimedia" or "gaming" speakers are used to. The bass on audiophile equipment is focused on clean, tight, accurate, bass. The purpose is to be able to actually discern sounds and instruments in the bass so that the speakers reproduce music to sound like the actual instruments.
It is much different than the bass that comes out of "multimedia" or "gaming" speaker setups, which is focused more on pure volume and thump. It gives a bigger physical impact when you are gaming and ahve an explosion on-screen. But when you listen to music, an audiophile would describe that kind of bass as sloppy, loose, muddy. There is no clarity in it, or ability to discern any kind of sound in that bass. It is bass that is meant to be felt, and not heard, using relatively inexpensive equipment to generate that.
So, it depends on what kind of bass you are used to. The M-Audio AV40's definitely have bass - they will have plenty of it, from what I read. It just won't have the sloppy, loose bass that rattles your chair and makes it hard to breathe, if that's what you're used to. -
Well if ur an audiophile you would not consider those cheap speakers. If you however are on a low budget they will probably be better than typical gaming setups for acoustic music and other types of music that needs a good stereo like pink floyd for example. They will however not be comparable to gaming speakers when it comes to games, movies and music that needs awesome bass to be cool like dubstep and some types of hip-hop and trance.
So i would recommend bigger bookshelf speakers or a sub to them for the complete package
If you want all in one pack i would recommend

They are twice as expensive but well worth the money in my opinion as i am currently owning them myself. -
I ordered them so once I get them I will let yall know how they sound!
I am going to build my own speaker stands since I cant find anything 36 inches high that can fit these speakers that does not cost like 200-300 dollars. If ya'll know of any let me know.
