These speakers are supposed to offer "studio sound". What exactly does that mean. Are there any cons? Are they only preferable if you are working in a studio, or would the sound they generate be perfect for listening to music at home as well?

I guess I'm asking if there is something about the 'studio sound' that is specific for studios that wouldn't be welcome for listening to music at home without worrying aobut editing and mixing etc?

Studio sound is just a marketing tool. There is a neutral sound, which some may like more than a bassy sound. Its all preference I'd say listen to them in person before you buy them.
