    Hi guys,
I'm having trouble getting my Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical to work with my new Dell Inspiron 9400.
I Installed the drivers (IntelliPoint 6.1) and the mouse worked after a restart. But when I restart now, The mouse isn't detected. The mouse's light is off and it wont work!

The mouse Isn't detected in the hardware Device Manager. It did appear there when first installed though.

When I plug my Logitech G5 into my laptop it works straight away without installing drivers - this is how my intellimouse worked on my desktop PC. But not on my laptop!

I've tried installing the touchpad drivers and disabling the touch pad, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.

    Can anyone help?

    *I'm using Windows XP Pro

right click my computer>properties>hardware>device manager>right click the very first thing on that list(your computer or whatever you named it)>click on scan for hardware changes. Make sure your mouse is pluged in first.

My mouse i corded - so no batteries there. My laptop is charged and plugged into the mains.

I do a scan for changes and it just refreshes my hardware list. The only device under mice is 'synaptics ps/2 pointing device' which is my touch pad. So my pc isn't even detecting my mouse. It only detects it after a re install. Then after a restart it disappears.

    Please help!

Does it appear in device manager. Uninstall the IntelliPoint software and click uninstall for the mouse in device manager and restart. The MS IntelliPoint is a plug and play device, you dont need any drivers for it.

If it's an older mouse, the cord could have suffered damage. My old MS IntelliMouse died that way.

Plug it into another computer to see if it works.
