Any reason to not go for a $35 MX1000?

That's $40 cheaper than the cheapest G7 I could find. I do like that the G7 allows you to use the transmitter as a dongle (no need to use the base), which is handy for a laptop, but for the few occasions that my DTR leaves the desk, $40 is a bit heavy!

Any other options that I might want to look at? I need a high quality mouse, not too picky if wireless or not, but NOT a mini, I like normal size, not too large not too small.

My less than 1 year old logitech media play sometimes jumps (the cursor) when I first move it after it had been resting for a while (I guess it would be in some power saving mode), cleaning it up from all the dirt that was in it failed to solve the problem. so I think it might be dying and I might make use of the MX1000 limited time special offer.

    Thanx for the input!

Yea, same here, I'm thinking of the G7 but the cheapest is still $110~ Canadian...

Don't see why the mx1000 would be a bad choice, its an awesome mouse.

i really recomend the Microsoft Wireless Laser 6000, it is just so **** comfortable and pretty, I don't like the feel of the MX1000 or the G7 and they are just way to ugly. Intelliopoint 5.4 is actually a fine piece of software, you can set program specific button configurations, I.E. photoshop i use one as a magnify tool, one as a take a step back button, etc. so nice, you can adjust for every program, i'm sure the G7 is a little more advanced but the 6000 is very nice, and it isn' Turquoise, nasty ass turqouise

and i have never had a microsoft ever jump or skip the cursor, people forget that microsoft is a very serious player in the mouse world and developed many technologies that were copied, just as logitech has as well.

I'm not really comfortable with Microsoft mouses, I find them too flat, some people like it, while others(like me) don't.

I may have big hands :p

I'm probrably gonna buy the g7 this weekend, and give it a whirl.

I think a mx1000 should be fine, unless you are gonna use you mouse for things that require really high precision. The G7 wins on the "cool" factor though.

i have a mx1000. bought it a week ago. love it. clean design, fits my hand well. buttons are accessible and even though it has plenty of features, i really only use 60% of them. The nicest feature is recharability. I hate having wireless mice that if you forget to charge, your left stranded for couple hours while it recharges or you buy new batteries. And frankly, getting a mouse that you have to continually purchase batteries for becomes more expensive.

gonna test drive it tomorrow, if I am satisfied I'll order :D

I'll give MS a try, In the past I used to hate how soft their wheel is, I like logitech's stiffer wheel. But things might have changed in the MS camp!?

I find MS's wheels too loose as well, I like the 'clickyness' of the scroll wheels on the Logitech's.

my notebook mouse from MS had an extremely nice wheel on it. it was perfect for switching weapons in battlefield, but after it drowned, i'm using an older MS mouse which yes, the wheel is alot looser.
I believe i'm giving the MS 6000 notebook mouse a try.

The MS laser wasn't on display although they had it for sale
But in general I tried all the MS mice and didn't like the wheel, althought the fit was comfortable. For me, coming from logitech mice it feels too weird, the wheel just feels too smooth, it feels like the wheel is just slipping under my finger and its actually not doing anything (no clicks like logitech). + I though it woobles too much left and right, again no left right click like logitech.

There were 2 MX1000s on display, the MX1000 and another part of the keyboard mouse set. I thought the wheel was a bit looser than my Media Play (and even the one on display - I guess both took the same beating of people trying them out :p), but it was still fine. But the wheel losness was different between the 2 on display (probably one was on display quite before the other), so maybe out of the box the MX1000 won't be this loose.

    SO ... MX1000 here I come :D

did u try the optical notebook mouse? the wheel was perfect to me.

but then again i decided that the V200 was cheaper, and looked better for portability, so thats the mouse i'm getting.

    Good choice :)

I'm still deciding, G7 or G5. About a $40 gap there after taxes...

The wireless base + modular battery quickswap fasinates me, but the corded sleeker G5 is guaranteed satisfaction...

Is the G5 the same body as the MX510/518?

I just love the feel of the MX510 ... and the blue one is too darn sexy. The material feels nice, not plasticy and not rough, just like skin on skin! BUT the G7 is just too kewl, the 007 of mice :D

So it is more of a coolness versus usability :p

X24, yup I tried that one too. It's just that whole design of a "wheel in a shell" that I didn't like. The wheel rotation has quite a bit of friction, which is good, but the lack of 'clicks', felt weird, too used to logitechs I guess.

BTW those mice on display at retail stores do take quite a beating. When I was examining and feeling, a kid passed thru and gave every mouse on display a beating ... a click frenzy! So no clue how trusty button and wheel feel is, but at least the fit don't change even if the buttons and wheels are worn out.

Yea, I own the mx700, my hand is now 'carved' into that body.

The G5 and G7 have the same body, but the G7 has a plastic body instead of the 'silky-rubber' on the 518/700/1000

edit: Looks like I can get the G7 for $90 or the G5 for $70, the price difference is neglible on my opinion - someone, please pick one for me - I cant decide!

Qwester - choose one for me buddy!

I don't mind wireless/corded, I do game but not alot but I do. Yea. The G7 screams cool, but the G5 screams reliable.

I can't choose!! This will be my desktop mouse, I'm buying a v400 for my portable one. Help meeeeee!!!!!

    This is a tough one!
If it were me, I think I would go with the G5. The material would be the deciding factor. I really hate the plasticy feel on my current MediaPlay, especially when I have sweaty palms.

I am not so sure how useful the weights can be, but that might be a nice thing for extra customization so that it suits you better.

My only negative on the G5, which is purely a personal taste, is the color, I don't like that silver red top :p

The red is ok, in my opinion.

I haven't tried the G7 so I can't comment on the 'plastic', but I'm quite disappointed Logitech used plastic instead of the traditional black silk-rubber. But the G5 it is! :D

    Thanks, and I won't blame you if I don't like it...that much ;)

Just read a review, lookie here:

The MX700 had a rubberized grip. The new G7 has no rubber parts on it at all. It is entirely constructed of a hard plastic material, so it doesn't get wet or lose its grip. It is a nice change from the old, rubber-laden design, that was "slippery when wet" (thanks, Bon Jovi). If your greasy, gamer-nerd palms tend to sweat a lot when playing an intense game of Unreal Tournament or whatever, this is the mouse for you.

    Hmmm...

edit: The battery still concerns me, "With regular use, don't be surprised changing the batteries every day"

If you blame me for the G5, I'll blame you for the MX1000 :D

I tried the G7 weeks ago and at the time didn't really pay much attention, so not sure if it is as annoying as the MediaPlay, but I am sure it won't feel as good as the MX510 I used to have.

Never tried or seen the G5 in person.

    Got it today...

Hmmm, not bad, but it feels pretty different. The rubbery grainy body of the mx700 compared to the grainy 'dust' body of the G5 is...different. The faux metal of the body(It could be metal...or aluminum heh).

There are lots of differences....I may make a comparison mini review hah

edit: Hmm, I'm quite disappointed. The thing is smooth though, and the weights are pretty handy. However, the mouse is too buggy. The scroll wheel is hard to just 'click', as I use the scroll wheel click to open tabs on FF, and the G% doesn't let me do that. Also, the back button doesn't work when SetPoint is on, turning it off works. Lastly, the right click doesn't work for open windows on the taskbar, it highlights but thats it. It works for everything else though.

The scroll wheel click(aka middle button) not working, the back button doesn't work with FF and the right click not working with open windows on the taskbar are bugging me.

And I did install the newest setpoint and the G5 firmware...

I tinkered with the SetPoint application as well.

If anyone can help, it's greatly appreciated!

For some reason I love the Smooth scrolling of MS mice, i think the Laser Wireless 6000 mouse uses smooth scrolling so that is why i like it, i don't use the wheel in my games for some reason, i always am better and faster had just hitting the numbers and on HL2 just using the quick change buttons, but I can see why people that use the wheel in games wouldn't like it.

I think the smooth wheel is much better for scrolling in photoshop and firefox, etc. I use smooth scrolling feature in Firefox also.

not to mention it isn't ****ing turqouise, it is pretty :)

i dont have this mouse but.. the logitech lx7 seems very comfortable for me, maybe cause it isnt super wide it seems easier to control.
