When I built my new desktop rig here a little over a year and a half ago (March 09), I bought a new keyboard and mouse (Logitech MX518) to go with it. (the reason I'm posting this here after posting it at DesktopReview is I'm not so convinced yet it's a hardware problem and figured the same thing might've happened with notebook users)

Recently though, when I've been playing Left4Dead 2, I've been having problems with it freezing up for a few seconds (not allowing me to turn around, nor getting any response from the buttons) and it's gradually been getting worse (happening more often) to the point I actually had to leave a good game I had going today.

I downloaded & installed Logitech's SetPoint software, have tried updating the drivers (already have the 'best version' installed) and have tried plugging it into every USB port on the back of my motherboard (eVGA X58 SLI - 132-BL-E758-TR).

It doesn't happen quite as often when I'm browsing the web and doing other stuff in windows, but it does every once in a while. Am wondering then if my mouse is on its last leg??

(Info found via Google has been vague at best....)

Well, get hold of one if you can. Borrow one from a friend or relative. It's definitely the quickest way to see if it's an issue with your MX518 or something with your computer or Windows.

I think the problem lays with the mouse itself.....played through a full round of L4D2 and browsed the web a bit with the generic optical mouse from a friend's Gateway (4+ yrs old), had not one problem......am going to try a few more things to see if I can solve the issue, otherwise I'll be stuck with it for a bit until I can replace it (with either a G9x or Lachesis)
