When I right click on mx518 (like to aim) when playing any fps games, my aim just suddenly shifts. But it doesn't happen in windows, the cursor is very steady in windows.

Using win7 x64. Logitech MX518. Default windows drivers, never had a problem with them for a long time.

    Any ideas whats wrong?

Do you have another computer or a friend's you can test it on? If so you can figure out if it is a hardware or a software issue.

Extremely unusual. But why on earth are you using the default windows drivers?

Because I need nothing the other drivers offer. The sensitivity modes work fine with default drivers.

I don't have another gaming pc but I'm sure it is a hardware issue since it happens in many fps games.

If for no other reason, the Logitech drivers are worth it to increase your USB polling rate above the default 125Hz.

You can do it without the setpoint, actually the setpoint only makes your mouse perform worst.

You can't say that. That test where the graph came from used a much older version of Logitech drivers. That is ancient history.

No they don't. Changing the sensitivity is not the same as changing the DPI. You want the mouse to read one pixel for every pixel you move on-screen. The default DPI setting in windows is pretty darn low. I have in-game sensitivity always set to minimum, no acceleration, and windows and logitech driver sensitivity set to default, ie no positive or negative sensitivity change to keep the pixels 1:1. Then I change the DPI to taste for in-game sensitivity. Also the logitech drivers offer keymapping that is not achievable with the default microsoft drivers. There is really no reason not to install the drivers.

    Actually no, it still true.

I own a MX518 V1 and still use it and always felt and still feel it having erratic tracking when using setpoint (last time I tried was like last week btw).

And I have to say that it happens with lots of mices i own.

And BTW, theres absolutly no point on installing drivers for mice specially setpoint that has a poor implementation of "mousefix".

Sorry if I misunderstood your response but I'm not talking about sensitivity in windows or games I'm talking about the on-the-fly DPI switcher thats built into the hardware of the mouse. Its above and below the scroll wheel and lets you switch between 3 different DPI's on the fly.

I got my 1800 dpi MX518 almost a month ago and I like it a lot. I have no tracking issues that I notice in games or when going pixel by pixel in graphics software. I am using it on a hard very flat wooden desk though.

I do believe you about that one "issue" not being fixed now. Although I have determined it really isn't an issue for me, or probably for 99% of people out there. Of the two tests I could find documenting this, for one it happens around 1.8-1.9 m/s and the other at 2.03 m/s. I tested it out last night to see if I could notice it. I first measured out one meter on my desk, and was trying to move the mouse there and back faster than one second while keeping it planted. Nope, couldn't do it. Then I set the mouse to 400 dpi and put up some obstructions to bound the mouse's movement. Whether I shook the mouse as furiously as I could or moved it slowly, it still tracked the exact same distance across the screen. For me at least, it is not an issue, but I would really like to see someone move their mouse so fast and with such control that they would be able to notice. I just don't think anyone is really hitting those limits.

After using the MX500 for seven years, and even buying one 5 years ago well after the 1600 dpi MX518 was released, the MX518 (and G500) is an extremely welcome upgrade. I had few settings I could change since Vista, so I was stuck at 400 dpi, which is fine for games, but not for a 1080p or multimonitor desktop, and without programmable buttons, which annoyed me a little in games. When I bought Windows 7 a couple of months ago, I lost all functionality of the two thumb buttons. This was the last straw and I bought the MX518 and G500. I am just super happy to have all those settings available now. There is just no comparison and it boggles my mind how I had grown accustomed to it.

Well how can you select what those three dpi settings are without the Logitech drivers?

I am still having the problem but 1 thing that is interesting is that it doesn't happen on another system I try playing the same game. So it has to be some kind of software problem.

Another thing is, on the second system I try it on, the mouse scroll through weapons doesn't work but on the first system that had the right click issue, mouse scrolling through weapons works fine. I should also add that all mouse functions work fine in windows this only happens in games.

Wish I could find a solution to this.

With the button switcher on the mouse. You just hit the +/- button to adjust the dpi on the fly between 3 settings. The whole point of the feature is to adjust aim mid-game and it works even with default windows drivers.

I can't believe this! I tried another mouse and it has the same problem!! So it must be a software issue of some kind!

I'm aware. What I am trying to say is that you have no control over what those 3 settings are, and are stuck with what each setting is programmed into the mouse's firmware. Personalizing those settings will suit you better. Also you can have different dpi settings for different applications as well as different button functions for different applications as well. I know you will say that the stock three dpi settings are just fine for you, but if you install the software and play with the settings for a few days you will not want to go back.

Maybe you should try the logitech drivers to see if it works.

Ok I see what your saying, non-stock dpi settings. Anyway I tried logitech drivers and it didn't work and also I'm using an MS optical mouse now and have the same problem so it seems drivers aren't really the issue given they are different companies of mice.

I made a video of the problem, you can see it here:

Have you tried using a different USB port? If you have access to a USB expresscard you could also try that. You could also try a live linux distro to see if it is still there.

Thank goodness I finally fixed it! Damn! It was some program in the background, I'm not sure which, it might have been this ip blocker program. But once I closed down all non-windows programs the problem was solved!!

    Thanks all!

Congrats. And you were sure it was a hardware problem of the glorious MX518. :p

How could I have thought so incorrectly about the greatest mouse of all time!?

By the way the program that caused this problem, is called VistaSwitcher. Its a program that improves alt-tabbing.

I think the real question here is, "why does this mouse looks like it has been brutally attacked with a jackhammer?"...

I just googled it and that design looks weird....

Thats what makes it cool. But feeling wise and performance wise it is second to none. Even the newer G5 which is supposed to be superior is now selling for cheaper (even though they still making the mx518). Long live mx.

The G500 already came out well over a year ago and is better than the MX518, no doubt about it. It was on sale at Newegg for a ridiculous $35 for a short time several weeks ago, but other than that it is and has always been more expensive than the MX518. The dual mode scroll wheel on the G500 is nice. The ability to see what dpi setting you are using, and the more ergonomic placement of the dpi buttons are other good things.

The G500 might have some better/more features but its not even in the same world as MX518 in term of feel and performance. MX518 is hailed by most as one of if not the best mouse ever.

As an owner of both, purchased at the same time, I respectfully disagree. :p Don't get me wrong though, I'm using an MX518 right now, have used MX500's since they came out, and I bought my girlfriend an MX518 for Christmas this year.
