Hi all,
Quick question or two about this M.M.O. 7 mouse.
The tracking laser/sensor on the bottom seems to have stopped working. I have tried cleaning the glass with rubbing alcohol (as the Mad Catz FAQ section states) but this has not had any results in getting it to work.
In the box it says there is a 2 year warranty, and have contacted Mad Catz about this, but as I no longer have my proof of purchase, they are refusing to deal with me. This is obviously my fault, but a mouse costing £100 that breaks 18 months down the line isn't good, and the fact the company offer no after-sales/out of warranty repair service is pretty shocking for a "high end" piece of kit.
Safe to say i'll be avoiding them in the future from now on.
Anyone had any dealing with the company, or an issue such as this themselves?
If you have had this problem how was it resolved?
Thanks
N

Yes, had this problem with a. Madcatz rat 7. Mine was a bit different, where Te sensor would not track accurately (instead of not working at all). I just threw the mouse out.
The sensor on that mouse is notoriously hated (Philips twin-eye sensor, or PTE) by mouse enthusiasts.
So sorry to say, but I think you are out of luck with your current mouse. Your option here is to buy a new mouse. I'd recommend something like a Logitech G400. It uses a well-regarded optical sensor (superior to high-DPI laser sensors), are durable, and are backed by logitech's very friendly customer service. And they're cheap... You can find them for about $40USD. -
Thanks for this, figured it was the case.
Not a big fan of the G400 having tried it.
May be tempted to go with a G502 however. Any Opinions on that? -
Actually, I saw that the Logitech G400 is discontinued, and is replaced with the Logitech G402. That uses a different sensor than the optical sensor I mentioned (Avago S3500). I dont have experience with that specific sensor, so I couldn't tell you how it ranks. I'm sure it would be fine if you bought it.
In any case, yes, the Logitech G502 is also a great mouse. Comes from a great heritage, great company support, and reviews well. I'm sure you'll be very happy with that.
P.S. if you don't already have one, I'd suggest getting a mouse pad. You can find inexpensive mouse pads all over the place on amazon from brands like anker, monoprice, thermal take, etc. Pick one that you like (cloth or hard), and don't spend more than $10-$15 on it. Using a mouse pad is exponentially better as a mousing experience than using a bare desktop surface, for both tracking and friction.Last edited: Jun 5, 2015 -
Thanks for the reply again Kent.
Will likely buy the G502 late on tonight then as my previous experience with Logitech as a company has been fantastic. Far superior to Mad Catz in fact.
I do have a pad, however new mouse may mean new pad for fresh beginnings. Cheers for that though. -
Post when you get it! Short review, unboxing video, your thoughts, etc.
I loves me some mouse pr0n!
