Has anyone used, or at least heard anything about, any media remote-control mice? The Logitech is the only one I've been able to find on Google.
I'd like to know if it's any good as a mouse, what the useable distances are like, and battery life. And of course, any other relevant info that you may have.
Failing that, what's a good option if I want to control my laptop from a distance? I want to play movies and music while laptop is hooked up to stereo/TV, without coming up to it every time. Or should I just suck it up and not be lazy?

With XP Media Center Edition you get remote control support. You need to buy a special remote control. (Some MCE laptops come with a small remote, like my HP Pavilion dv5040us.)
Another pretty cool remote device is the Mouse/pointer from Gyration ( http://www.gyration.com). It has a motion sensor which allows you to select thing on the screen by pointing it:

The Deluxe edition comes with a small wireless keyboard as well.
Looks like they just brought out an MCE remote control:

I've it, very good build. Car like Paint Finishing.
I have no problem to control the computer everywhere
of my 500 sq feet Bedroom.
Got it for only $19.99 after rebate at Canada BestBuy.

Yep, that's the one I saw. Can you do a short review, tell us how it works, what you like and don't like, what you can and cannot do with it, etc. I'm sure others would want to hear as well.

The Logitech MediaPlay Cordless Mouse is like nothing you've ever seen before. First, it has all the features you need to use it as your everyday mouse: smooth optical tracking (800DPI), clutter-free cordless freedom, extra navigation buttons, and a powerful scroll/tilt wheel that lets you scroll up and down, left and right, and in and out.
And when you're ready to relax, the MediaPlay mouse relaxes with you. Back-lit extra buttons like play/pause, forward/back, and volume up/down let you control your media player with almost no effort. You can also hold it like a remote control and use it away from your desk thanks to the expanded cordless range. Its wireless mini receiver elininates clutter and installs instantly. And 6 months of battery life mean more music and video with fewer interruptions!
Works Like a Mouse
Wheel tilts for side to side scrolling, clicks to zoom
Universal page forward/back buttons
Comfortable rubber grip for optimum control
Plays Like a Remote
Backlit media control buttons, plus one-touch media player access
Controls MediaLife™ software, and most other media players
Contour shape can be held and used like a remote with an extended cordless range of up to 10 feet (3 meters)*
Overall, I am very happy with my media mouse.
But i have no idea how well it will do when using it
to play games. Maybe another member can post
how the mouse perform when gaming.....!
