I'm spoiled, and my K53TA-BBR6 and I are leaving for a few months and we need a mic.
Gaming headsets will not do. I already have a FiiO E10 and Senn HD600's. I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg on a mic, but I just want something better than what is built into the laptop and/or built into my webcam (good old Logitech 9000).
Any suggestions on an easily available mic to possibly have to use in noisy areas over the next few months? USB preferred, due to being stuck with integrated audio. I don't need a Yeti or some fancy studio-recording-podcast-overkill thing, just something to Skype with and talk to people on Eve, and enable them to still understand what I'm saying. I use a mixer and a stage mic at home, so that's really not an option. Note: that was the cheaper way to do things. Highly recommended.
I know the 600's are open, so I'll be using CX 680's or maybe the trusty old EH-150's for when it's noisy.

A standard 15$ Zalman clip-on mic will do. Something like this: Amazon.com: Zalman Zm-Mic1 High Sensitivity Headphone Microphone: Electronics. There is also at least one mic that is made to attach to headphones to have a headset like stup, but i don't remember who makes and what is the model. THere are people on NBR who know though.
I can completely understanding not wanting a headset when you got a pair of good headphones. -

For the road I was going to get the Beyerdynamic MMX300 just for that reason.
But yeah if I was away from home since I didnt get those I would either settle for my Zalman clip on, or best yet I can use my Zoom H2N as a usb mic (or use it as a pre-amp for a good lapel mic)
A shotgun mic mounted proper is really nice too, and you can get China ones pretty cheap on ebay, make sure it runs of its own power and does not require phantom power.
For your needs though a cheap lapel or the zalman seems the best fit, or simply get a logitech usb desktop mic or something. -
I'd get a closed gaming headset.
