    Hello Guys,

What mice should I be looking at for productivity and school?

I can get 2 mice: 1 with larger one for the dorm and 1 smaller one to carry around.

Key points: ergonomics, buttons, overall experience.
NOTE: I am NOT looking specifically for gaming mice with horrible battery life...etc.

Wireless would be prefered as I hear bluetooth drains more energy from my laptop (less battery life).

So far I seemed to have narrowed it down to:
    - Logitech Performance Mouse MX
    - Logitech MX 1100 (trying it now)
    - Logitech MX Revolution

However, these all seem relatively old and was wondering if I was missing anything amonst these contenders?

    Any suggestions would be welcome!!!

I'd like to know what good mice are out there too.

@OP: for a travel mouse, I use a Targus mini-mouse with the rolled-up wire. works perfectly for me.

I had one of those and it just broke on me. The receiver I think failed.
Also the receiver was cheaply/poorly designed such that the horizontal force you apply when putting in / tacking the receiver from the usb port easily forces the receiver open. (its like a sandwhich with silicon in the middle).

Also, the buttons were too few :(

logitech performance mouse mx and logitech anywhere mouse mx

i'm not sure why you're worried about them being old. mice don't really evolve very much and the vast majority of improvements are related to gaming.

I have been using MS trackball explorer- it is wired and real hard to find
Microsoft Trackball Explorer ? The World’s Most Comfortable Trackball
But after many years of use I have never had any problem with it AFA hardware. Also I fell it has helped me to avoid carpal tunnel issue.
I am sure you could find a modern alternative to this relic. It is not for gaming and took a little getting used to . Hope this helps, Josea

What I can say is that the performance mouse MX does not have the battery life that it's predecessor (MX Revolution) did. I get around 6-7 days of continuous use before I have to recharge this mouse. That being said, charge it for an hour over USB and you're good for another week.

I only turn it off when it's in my backpack (which is pretty much never during the summer). But, I didn't with my MX Revolution either, and I was getting close to 3 weeks between charges on that.

The MX Revolution is a superb mouse, never have I seen a mouse with so much customizability. Been using it for almost 3 years and still going strong. Only downside is that the adapter is not tiny enough to leave in your laptop when you carry it around.

Other downside: not available anymore/extremely expensive when you can find one. :(

(I used mine until I broke the left click button from overuse. It would compress, but it would sometime uncompress, making highlighting/dragging difficult.)

indeed, never used it myself except in the store though.

the performance mouse mx is the successor and addresses the large adapter issue, although i believe it loses one button.

Fair enough (on the issue that it broke for you). I have 4 of them and not one has broken yet but I'm probably just lucky.

When I was window shopping in my local Bestbuy (yeah, I know), I saw the Logitech M400 and i looked to be a great mouse. The box says that it's the successor to the MX518 and that it has 3600dpi. Anyone here think the M400 is a decent choice?

Of those mice you listed, I would take MX Revolution for the dorm. To carry around, I suggest that Razer orochi would be an excellent choice as it is small, wireless and handy.

But why the MX revolution over the MX1100?
Isn't the newer MX 1100 supposedly "better" with more features and better tracking and such?

Also, it seems that there aren't any Darkforce mice on par with the MX1100 and MX Revolution.

Tracking on a variety of surfaces is important because nobody wants to carry around an extra mousepad with them whereever they need to work. (on stairs, wooden tables...etc.)

I regularly use my mouse on my wood desktop. Only use a pad for gaming.
