Well I am looking to get a mouse to bring with me everywhere with my MSI Wind. I would like the mouse to be fairly cheap (max $30-$40), but I am struggling with deciding not only models but whether it should be bluetooth or wireless...

I guess my question really is which would you go with?

Both of my computers have bluetooth, but I really don't care too much about having a wireless usb sticking out of one of my usb ports...

So which of these would use up the least amount of battery (for the laptop)?

Thanks for any and all help! :D

depends on the mouse... for instance.. my bt mouse from dell lasts over 1 month with 2AA bats... (and i would definitely go with bluetooth... )

I'm guessing that any difference between Bluetooth and 'regular' wireless would be negligible and mostly dependent on the device and not the technology.

If your computer already has Bluetooth, then consider that you won't need a dongle hanging out a USB port like you would with 'vanilla' wireless.

Logically, having both Bluetooth and a wireless dongle will consume more power for a laptop than if you just had Bluetooth. 2 devices consume more than 1 (in most cases anyway).

I see what you're saying, as long as I have bluetooth I might as well use it! ;)

But really there is an easy way on the wind to turn bluetooth on and off so having both on isn't an issue...

Anyway, I think I'll just go with a bluetooth mouse then. :)

Do you guys have any model suggestions??

I would reccomend a bluetooth one. Technically, Bluetooth is a low-power-consumption wireless technology

    Hey there SL! ;)

I personally would go with the Bluetooth. ;)

I have the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook 5000, and it's awesome for my 1530..it's small and compact..and I would think something like this would be a great add for your Wind...Plus it's priced really good right now: w/in you budget ;) :)

Add: The batt. life has been really good on this almost 6 months..I guess it would depend on your usage, though! ;)

Here's the linky! $26.99 ;) But, you may be able to find it cheaper!

I looked up what Dell had to offer aespinalc but it seems that the only bluetooth mice they have are full size and I am looking for something more portable.

As for the MS 5000 it seems like a pretty nice travel companion and for that price it's very hard to beat. ;) Thanks for the suggestions!

Neither would affecct the battery life of the nb. For the Wind, I'd recommend a bluetooth mouse.

Well, it depends on your usage:

Do you use the mouse only on one computer or do you want to use it with multiple computers.
If you only use it with one computer, then get BT, if you want to use it with multiple computers get the wireless. Else you always have to reconnect the BT mouse.

Do you need long battery life?
If you don't need long battery life then go with the the BT mouse, if you need long battery life, then go with the wireless mouse.
Everyone who says that BT consumes only few power has not used BT with a laptop. BT consumes about 2 Watt, because it stresses the CPU. In other devices, like the mouse, mobile phone, the BT drivers and profiles are hardware based implemented and there it consumes few power. But on a laptop, the BT is software regulated and needs CPU power. I use a BT mouse, keyboard, headset, mobile phone, ... so trust me, if you need battery life don't use a BT device on your laptop.

since i rarely take my notebook off my desk, i got one with a dongle even though i have bluetooth.

the reason? it was on sale.

the mouse i got is a vx nano - here is a thread i put up about it...

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=296820

if you travel a lot, then get something bluetooth. otherwise, this thing rocks. it's very comfy and allowed me to get 60 frags and 0 deaths on unreal tournement. :-DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD flawless victory!

Hm... well seeing as the Wind's slowest component seems to be the CPU I don't think that I want to tax it anymore than I need to...

Also, that dongle looks like I could just keep it constantly connected! I like that! :D

I have always been a logitech fan and I was disappointed because they only make like 1 bluetooth mouse, but this vx nano looks like a winner to me! :)
