I am after a decent pair of in ear headphones with microphone built in to go with a recent purchase of a new gaming laptop. I have just bought a ROCCAT Kone mouse and have seen that they sell the ROCCAT Vire

I do not have the need for headphones and mic with my desktop setup so have not tried any before, are these worth the money or is there another brand I should be thinking about instead?
I'm in no immediate rush to make a decision as the laptop wont be delivered until around 21/10/09 although I do want them by then. I am open to other suggestions but I do want them small enough to fit in the laptop bag so nothing too big.

    Cheers
    Stu

You might also consider the Razer Moray. I forget who, but someone here gave them a pretty positive review. They're the same concept; in-ear headphones with a built in microphone, making for an ultra-portable gaming-grade headset.

I'm not sure if gaming earphones actually offer much benefit while playing games so if you want to look a bit into audio quality, there's the Nuforce NE7s which also have a built in microphone (I'm not sure if that's iPhone only though, you may have to look into that)

Do you want in ear headphones - or IEMs as they are called.
    (In ear monitors)

Or Earbuds - which is what you show - earbuds tend to sound dreadful compared to IEMs...

Buying turnover and headphones separately will give you more flexibility. A pair of headphones (not iem) will also be more comfortable if you are going to wear them for long hours.

    Yuin pk1? :D

I hadn't actually given a lot of thought toward the correct terminology but small headphones with built in microphone that fit into a laptop bag not too obtrusively yet cater for reasonable sound playback and pickup. They wont be used for any real length of time but I want them there for when they are needed. The ones I use for my ipod are in ear and the bass is fantastic so I know what your saying about the old skool type earbuds.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

I can sell you some shure E4C's with the zalman microphone setup I used to use.

The E4C's retail for about 340$ when i bought them not sure if its over your budget but I can sell you the set for 120$.

On that basis an IEM and scondary microphone combination may work well.

For skype I tend to use my IEMs (IE8) and then either the built in microphone in my Vaio (which works well) - or as I have an X-Fi Go USB Soundcard - use the microphone that was included with the card.

I think you'd be fine with just about any little external microphone on a 3,5mm plug.
It may also be cheaper just to buy a microphone.

If you are looking for earbuds + mic I would recommend the Razer Morray + I bought a pair after reading a review on this website and I love them. Pretty good sound quality and has a pretty good mic. I also use it on my Blackberry so I get more use out of them then someone who only uses them for PC. However, I use them on my ipod as regular ear buds. I use them as the go to for music and gaming when I am on the go. If you are thinking you will be in the same place when you game all the time go for a headset, but if you are like me and take my pc everywhere then you might want to look into them. I bought mine on amazon but here is the link to razer for specs and all.

No clue how good or bad they are, but they are IEMs (In ear monitors) - sometimes called In ear headphones
    Edit:
Just looked at the specs - they onl cover 20-11000Hz - most people can hear fequencies above 11000Hz - depending on your music you may miss out on the sound there...

Earbuds are the "flat ones" that hand in your ear and sound like the 10 cents they cost. (i.e. horrible)

Thanks for all the suggestions, I've since found out that my m17x has a mic built in that isn't too bad for sound quality but I'll see on Wednesday when it's delivered. I have decided to buy the Razer headphones too though as I can use them with my iPhone and PSP too so happy days :)
