I'm wanting to buy a Bluetooth mouse and I'd welcome some input from you guys. I've been partial to the Microsoft Notebook Laser Mouse 7000 since it was introduced, but the USB dongle is annoying. I'd like to make use of my notebook's Bluetooth capability.

I've looked at the Microsoft Bluetooth Laser Mouse 5000 a couple of times. Anyone have one of these or ever used this model before?

Input, advice, suggestions will be appreciated!

    Hey!

I have the MS BT Notebook 5000!! :D
It's an awesome mouse...I love the BT Technology on it, and it works great with my XPS 1530. With it you will find: Reliability, Fast scrolling with great *control*, nice and compact, good batt' life. And, I like the way it feel's in my hand! :D These, are all good things! ;)

The other great thing....no software needed! Put the batt's in, turn it on, and your lappy and Mouse, each find each other!! :)

The prices have been varying daily on the BT 5000 at amazon.com!! Last week it was priced at $29.99, this week..nearly $42.00
    http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Blu...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230834735&sr=8-1

Here it is at dell.com...I configured it with a 20% coupon for accessories (valid til 1/2/09). $31.99~

    https://ecomm2.dell.com/dellstore/b...=SNA&oid=0e9a993d-3b9f-4832-99b7-4c99060b770a

Thats alot better than $42.00!~ Plus, if you have Dell EPP, you can save an additional 7%! ;) Here is the 20% off accessory coupon code: 2ZQR81H710$KB$ (valid thru 1/02/09 at 11:59 PM).

In March, I will have had the BT 5000, for a year. It still looks and work's as it it was *brand new*!

    Hope that helps!

    Cin ;) :)

Or... you could get a mouse with a micro reciever... such as the Logitech VX Nano... I have it and it is AMAZING.... its also on sale and free shipping at Newegg right now... plus you really dont have to worry about any interference that comes along with BT sometimes

I agree that the nano is a great mouse but it is not immune from interference. It uses the 2.4Ghz Radio frequency that can receive interference from the Microwave, Wifi signal, cordless phone etc....

I think the Nano is a great mouse (have a friend whom has one)...But I just clearly enjoy all the capabilities of the MS BT 5000. NO receiver needed at all. :D

And as always..it's a matter of personal choice. ;)

Just picked up the MS 5000 for my Bluetooth Thinkpad x61s and this puppy is very nice.
I wanted it small enough to carry with me by big enough for my bigger hand.

I really like the no fuss, no noise clicking of the buttons.

Hey Cin, I purchased this based on your recommendation. Thanks You did good.

For me, it just does *everything* a BT Mouse should!

Where did you end up purchasing?

I do wish that it had smooth scrolling though, the wheel is kinda noisy...

I Also have been using the 5000 BT mouse for a few months only changed the batt once and I use it all day everyday without a problem, shame theres no more choice in BT mice,
but im happy with this one :)
Only downside is I can't change the pointer speed to be diff from the HP trackpad to the BT mouse. I guess this is because its BT.

IF YOU LIKE TO RE-ASSIGN BUTTON FUNCTIONS - DON'T GET THIS MOUSE!!!

I got it and discovered it is impossible to re-assign the button functions on it. It's right here on Microsoft's web page:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953695

The fact that Intellipoint software does not work with this mouse also means that your other settings, such as pointer acceleration, are not properly sorted out between the mouse and the touchpad.

What's the point of having Bluetooth built in to your laptop if you can't get full functionality from the devices that use it?

I have had no problems whatsoever with my BT 5000! Sorry, you had troubles. I thinks this BT Mouse is one of the best BT, out there right now.

Each person has their own views and opinions on everything, though~! ;)

I have it, but it's in the box almost all the time since, as Andreos said, I couldn't re-assign any button and battery life is not so great considering 2*AAA == < 3 months life.

Reference: VX rev uses 1*AA and lasts a bit more than 3 months; VX nano uses 2*AAA lasting about half a year.

Hmmm. Mine lasted nearly 4.5 months..which I don't mind changing when it it needs it, AAA batt's are not so expensive!

I will take the fast scrolling, the nice way it fits in my hand (very comfy), and the reliability..over having to change my battery every 4-5 months any day! :D

Hmmm. fast scrolling on MS BT 5000? You'd better switch to friction-free wheel from Logitech. You will know how fast & precise it can really be. Wheel on MS BT 5000 is like a toy comparing to hyper-scrolling wheel. I don't say that toy is not good though, just personal preference.

Yes, I've had mine for nearly a year..and it does scroll quick for me. I have tried the Logitech Mice...my good friend has the VX Nano. If, I didn't have my 5000 ~ The Nano would be my next choice.

And, yes...it is a matter of personal choice/preference.

I bought the oem version from newegg and its working fine with my laptop.
the only "issue" is you can use the side "thumb button" without installing the intelipoint software. So far it seems nice and I've had no problems with it. the laser is pretty accurate and I had no problems using it for some light photoshop work.

Microsoft's new Bluetrack Explorer mouse seems so cool. I think I am in love :) But I don't wanna carry a wireless stick everywhere. I can't decide between bluetooth and bluetrack.

The VX 470 is also nice! :D

I also, like the look's of the Bluetrack! :D
