I recently bought a MS Xbox 360 wireless controller for PC that comes with the wireless receiver/dongle. I'm thinking about getting another wireless controller so i can play with a friend. Do you think if i buy a regular wireless xbox controller (black or red) that the wireless receiver/dongle will see it and allow me to play?

for reference i have vista 32bit. when i inserted the receiver the first time i didn't have to download/use any drivers off the drivers disc, it played right away. reason for asking is because MS only released a white 'pc' xbox 360 controller, i want another color.

I don't think the other non-pc controllers come with a wireless dongle. Did you check?

any official xbox 360 wireless controller would work for the wireless dongle... each dongle can connect up to 4 controllers

though you have to make sure the dongle is on it's own usb port or powered usb hub... it draws a lot of power

i have 3 xbox 360 controllers with one wireless usb dongle, but no xbox 360 :)

i got all three when there was a deal @ dell.com for $20 each... the 'PC' package... white wireless controllers with dongles each... great deal ...

(tested my friend's red wireless controller, works)

though one of the dongles didn't work (Rumor was that batch had problems, some people who received them had same problem... dell wanted me to send everything back for full refund, but at $20 for the wireless controllers themselves were a good deal too, so i didn't. Sold one of the dongle to a friend who had a xbox360 system)

i got a few rechargable battery systems @ dealextreme.com ... okay, cheap crap, but works... (2-4 weeks shipping though)

ooooo okay. did you install or even use the driver disk taht comes with it? I was able to plug n play right away (fallout3, tomb raider underworld, bioshock). Do you know any advantages of using the driver disk? I use vista 32bit by the way...

not sure whether the plug n play gives you the utility to show you how many controllers are connected and their battery status...

if you don't, get the driver/software straight from microsoft's website

there's this software Pinnacle Game Profiler which gives you more accessibility to the controller and different apps... look into it, quite useful

I've connected all 4 of my regular xbox controllers to my laptop before. I had bought the wireless dongle back when it was sold separately for $20. However, I connected it to a non-powered usb hub with no problems.

Also as a side note, a 360 wireless headset and wireless steering wheel will connect as well. I have yet to see if force feedback works though but I ordered dirt for pc so i'll find out soon.

well for non powered hub, if it's alone, okay, but if other devices are drawing power (eg webcam/2.5" HDD), then no

force feedback on controller works with Pinnacle Game Profiler.. for games, i guess it depends on the coding
