I didn't wanna hijack the thread that was already made(although I did read it a bit) so I figured I'd make my own.
So I'm planning on maybe buying a new monitor within the next few months probably and I'd appreciate some suggestions if you had any![]()
Budgets:
- under 200$CAD after everything (so taxes & shipping)
Uses
It'll be hooked to what is currently my family computer so the uses of us all would include:
- regular browsing
- watching movies
- occasional gaming
- computer design (your basic Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign stuff)
- CAD (mostly Solidworks and Rhino, maybe some Cinema 4D and Catia, not sure yet)
Preferences:
- I'd like something big (as I have a 19" monitor now) so around 23"-24"
- 1080p is my preferred resolution (I'm on 1440x900 at the moment)
- DVI input since my GPU has no HDMI output currently
Due to my price range I think the Dell Ultrasharps aren't available to me (they start at over 200$ for the smallest one) so is there anything else you'd recommend?
I've looked around and these models seem nice:
- Asus ML239H (23", LED, IPS, 1080p)
- LG IP236V (23", LED, IPS, 1080p)
Does NBR have any other suggestions for me?![]()

I've been using the 236V's little brother, the 226V and it is indeed a nice monitor, not professional quality, but still good.

my Asus ML239 is coming on monday. if you can wait I will let you know how it is!

Thanks both of you and looking forward to hearing from you gamekingr ^^
Any other suggestions? It doesn't have to be IPS because honestly, I'd calibrate everything at the printer I'll be using, not at home (simply because I don't wanna have to deal with pantones and color profiles).

I'd say Dell 2211H for sure. Dell.ca tends to have daily deals for christmas and there tends to be at least one cheap IPS panel at some point. And if not, I got my panel from a guy on kijiji in Missisauga for $185.
Based on past years, I would say you can check daily and expect an under $200 IPS. Last year there are a U2311H for $189. -
update: Just got the Asus ML239 today. So far, so good. I even tried watching it at a very awkward angle, color is good . Installation was a breeze, did not take more than 5mins. I thought I had a backlight bleed on the bottom right, but when I come back later the backlight bleed is gone. Not sure what's up with that. It auto adjust the aspect ratios when you plug it on a comp, so no sweat usage lol I think that's it so far. Light, elegant, beautiful piece of monitor. Very happy with it. Hope this helps, let me know if u need more info.

Might be more detailed that you need, but a good review of the ML239 nonetheless. I'm actually pleasantly surprised -
The ML239H definitely looks nice so I'm leaning towards that ^^
I've been keeping an eye out for the Ultrasharp sales, but the 23" one only went as low as 199$
Any other suggestions? -
This 1200p beast was on sale...might be on sale again.
Buy the Hannspree ST288MUR 28 1080p 60Hz LCD HDTV at TigerDirect.ca
The sale was $50 MIR.
Large and in charge. -
If you look at the historical prices for that monitor, you can see that it goes on sale every 2-3 weeks and everytime, it gets cheaper. -
200$ before tax or after? Cause it was 199$ before tax a few days ago, but with tax and everything it's too high for me (almost 250$).
Should I prioritize good panel vs size/resolution? I can find some old Dell S-IPS 4:3 20" monitors for around 100$... -
