I'm thinkin about getting a Mobile Edge Premium V-Load bag. I'm just wondering if the magnet will damage the laptop or not. There's some speculation about it damaging hard drive/ I'm a little worried about it damaging the LCD personally. but yeah, anyone know anything about this? (im puttin in a Dell Inspiron e1505).

thx in advance for reading and helping out =).

I think the only thing that would be at risk would be the hdd, to my knowledge LCD's cannot be damaged by magnetism. However, it takes a very strong magnet to whipe a harddrive and the magnets used to secure a bag tend to be quite weak. I really doubt there's anything to worry about.

if the magnet on the bag is only to keep the flap together, then it shouldn't be strong enough. I have a harddrive magnet to hold my change and it is strong enough to hold a handful of coins of at least 5 layers (american coins dont work, only canadian coins)

magnets only effect CRT screens. They shoot electrons, which, as we all know from our physics class, are negatively charged. In the CRT, they are directed by electromagnets and strike one of three phosphors at each pixel after passing thorugh a screen etc etc.

An LCD (which stands for Liquid crystal display) is controlled by applying electric current to the "liquid" (i think). That is not affected by magnetism, at least, in the same way that a CRT is affected.
