I am looking for a mouse for basic internet surfing and tasking.
This Amazon.com: Wireless Handheld Trackball Mouse for Computer Laptop Rechargeable Travel w/ Laser Pointer Presenter 5 Button: Electronics Is what I am currently looking into, I used something similar a while back and it seemed to work alright.
What I like about this one in particular is that other similar products generally don't have a "trigger" opening, rather its just a trigger button resting on the outside, I feel like the above design would be easier to hang on to. The wireless receiver looks nice and small. And a laser pointer? A bit useless..unless you own a cat or want to blind your girlfriend..
Can anyone comment on this or similar products? Trying to eliminate the need for a mousepad and surface for those late nights in bed.
On a side note, I am curious to see if people are successful using a trackball like such: ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104407 ) for use of gaming, namely FPS's as I will be playing BF3 a decent amount on my laptop.
Thanks!

I can't say anything about that thing you linked, but I can tell you gaming with a trackball sucks.

1) If you want to control a mouse without a mousing surface, then yes, trackball is the way to go.
2) If you want to play games, then Mastershroom is correct - trackball is NOT the way go to.
There is a very good chance that you will need to buy two separate devices to solve two very different problems. Asking one device to do it all is just asking too much out of a mouse. -
No I agree completely.
The point of the thread was for reviews on similar trackball mouses.
I understand a trackball is the least optimal way to game, I was just curious who has tried it.
Thanks -
I actually have exactly the Logitech device you linked. It works really well when you don't have space for a mouse.
I have used it to game. For non-twitch games (e.g., Civilization), it's great. For twitch games (e.g., CoD)... not so great, but really not particularly worse than using an Xbox controller. You may have to drop down a difficulty setting in the game. -
Thanks for the reply Malgrave!
I went ahead and purchased it prior to your review, but you've only made me feel even more confident now.
Thanks Again -
I've got the mouse in and its actually awesome!
One MAJOR downfall however(besides not being cheap!) Is the fact that there is no driver software, al a no way to customize what buttons do what, nor ways to change scroll speed..
If I had known that before..I might not have bought it. But the mouse works well, it will do what I need it to do, it just won't do it as cleanly as I would have wanted.
Hmph -
If you bought the Logitech M570 trackball (instead of that gimmicky no-name brand trackball thing), then you should go to Logitech's website and download the driver package (called Logitech SetPoint) for your trackball That lets you adjust speed, configure buttons, etc.

Well, Kent, thanks for your input, but my biggest thing here was not really having a need to set it down, I guess I could rest it on my lap..hmm

That doesn't look bad at all for the Price Ken!
Can you adjust the page scroll speed of the wheel?
Thank You!
