I have been using my microsoft mobile mouse 6000 at my parent's house when I come home from college on the weekends. It is probably 2 months old. The receiver has been in the side of my laptop since I bought the mouse. Now my computer fail to recognize the receiver, so in turn my mouse doesn't work. When you pull the receiver out it is hot (120*F). The mouse or receiver have never been dropped and have been well taken care of. I guess I will chuck it up as a $40 loss and go back to using my belkin mouse when I travel.

There is this thing called warranty. Maybe you could use it. And perhaps it's an issue with the laptop - USB port-connected devices hotting up doesn't sound good.

No, I meant the laptop killed your receiver.
