I recently purchased a Dell D630 and would like to purchase a quality, lightweight mobile surge protector for it using this notebook for law school, so Ill be carrying it around a lot.

Go for the three prong if you can. Ussualy means a ground is used in the protection and arrestors with a ground tend to perform a lot better.
