I have this laptop cooler with 220mm fan: ::: Zalman, leading the world of Quiet Computing Solutions :::

Had to clean my laptop a few times to remove dust, and I was thinking of affixing a layer of ultra fine copper mesh to the top of the Zalman. Would this help filter out dust and improve heat dissipation at the same time? (The bottom of my laptop is not plastic, but made out of a magnesium alloy metal.)
Or would this reduce cooling?

instead of fine mesh, i'd recommend used tights or stockings (whatever appropriate name is for the light brown stuff women wear, the thing one) works great. maybe like a layer of tissue, those are much more delicate though.
copper mesh would probably block too much airflow, though depends on the mesh i guess. -
remember the air will be blowing up through that mesh so it will trap the dust on the bottom side where you cannot clean it unless you make the mesh removable. It would probably be better to put a filter over the coolers intake not its output side. This way you will be able to clean the filter without removing it, and will be able to easily check to see if its dirty.
Also your laptop will never be in good enough contact with the mesh to affect heat transfer at all. Your laptop feet will keep it slightly elevated. Even if you had direct contact it would only help cool the bottom case not the internals or keyboard area. -
I've tried several coolers, but this works best for my Alienware 17 View attachment 116795
