I'm looking for a monitor. Here are my requirements:

Price: $200-$250 range. Anything higher than $300 is completely out of the question.

    Size: 21-24 inches.

    Resolution: 1920x1080 or 1920x1200

Intended Use: Replacement for laptop monitor, frequent movies, some video and computer games.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Care to explain why? As far as I can tell it's a generic TN based monitor.

For under $300, aim for a Dell u2211h, u2311h, or 2209wa. All have high quality IPS panels and can be calibrated to near perfect color accuracy.

The 2209WA is, for all intents and purposes, no longer available. Dell lists it on their site but the last order for one that I placed has been on hold for almost two months and my employer is canceling it on Monday.

The U2211H and U2311H are suitable replacements, though from what I hear you have to watch out for tinting issues. Still great monitors if you get one that doesn't have a problem out of the box.

I use a Asus VH242 (Got it for ~170 on newegg) and havn't had any problems with it. Solid build quality & decent built in speakers. Supports hdmi/dvi/vga on the 23.6" diagonal.

I've heard great things about the 2209WA. Is the lower resolution noticeable on such a large screen?

I'm also looking into the u2211h and u2311h. The tinting issue is concerning though. Are there any other monitors that suit my needs? Are their certain brands that stand out above the rest?

These Dell monitors are pretty much all the options that are available to you for e-IPS panels, obviously you could go down the cheaper TN panel route for a greater range of LCD.

IPS panels are terrible for gaming, the ghosting is unbearable. I'd look into something like the Asus MS238H for a 1080p, LED backlit gaming monitor with a 2ms response time.

The Dell U2311H is the best choice for your budget. The IPS ghosting issue has became some what of a history, IPS panels nowadays have a much faster response time compared to before.

    Stop, you're doing it wrong.

Dakins, that was true... 10 years ago. Heck, even many PVA panels nowadays can keep up with high-demand gaming.

The whole response time and input lag fervor should've died down long ago. At the least, please cite actual benchmarks and not (useless) manufacturer published specs.

    OH WAIT-

I second that, very pleased with mine. Should work very well for your intended use. Can't comment on the speakers though, as I've never used them.

As far as resolution on the 2209WA goes, I have no problems. I can't imagine the U2211H or U2311H would be a problem with resolution either.

You might want to read up on the U2311H thread at HardForum. Those guys are a bit extreme (and seek perfection) but you might get a good idea as to the current status of any tinting issues.
