    Nope those Dells have great TN panels. Though you'll need to calibrate them. I have the 24" version. It's really awesome, but the colors and gamma were all trash out of the box.

    GSync is also really really good on desktop vs laptop. I would want to keep it. Especially if this is for gaming.

    I have this monitor, and it's great, at least once you've calibrated it both through the built-in menu and in the NVIDIA control panel. The thin bezels make it feel like a bigger display than it is, and I especially appreciate its professional appearance versus the "ZOMG G4M3R" designs of similar Acer and Asus monitors.

    If I were you, I'd check eBay and the /r/hardwareswap subreddits to see if you might be able to get it cheaper. I found mine on the latter for less than $400, complete in box with the receipt in the unlikely event I would need to file a warranty claim. Just make sure that the hardware revision is A02 or later, as earlier ones were known to be unreliable - obviously ordering direct from Dell would avoid this potential pitfall.

    Make sure you get a good DisplayPort cable as well, since the one that comes in the box is not of the best quality. Assuming your notebook has a mini-DisplayPort output, buy this one. It's not exactly cheap, but it solved a problem I was having with the monitor flickering at random.

    Echoing the sentiment already in the thread, this looks like a good buy. TN isn't a deal-breaker in this case.

    How is 1440p on the 24" with 100% scaling?

    It's fine, I prefer to use 125% scaling to be honest because I don't want real estate I want sharpness, but it's usable at 24".

    27" would be better obviously, but also blurrier.

    100% DPI scaling is perfect for me on the 27-inch 1440p monitor. The only program I have to adjust is Chrome, which I run at 110%.

    If you want to order direct from Dell, do it now while the estimated shipping date is less than a week out. Last time the company put it on sale, fulfillment quickly went from a couple days to several weeks. Now your individual panel may vary, but here are my calibration settings if you want to use them as a baseline.

    OSD
    Brightness: 26%
    Contrast: 75%
    Color -> Preset Modes -> Custom Color: R - 97% | G - 99% | B - 96%
    Display -> Response Time: Normal
    Others -> Monitor Deep Sleep: Disable

    NVIDIA Control Panel
    Under Display -> Adjust desktop color settings
    Select Use NVIDIA Settings
    The only things I changed here were Gamma to +0.80 and Digital Vibrance to 60%

    The NVIDIA settings reset back to default whenever you change drivers, so don't forget to make those adjustments again.

    thanks for the settings. Is there a way we can determine the revision of the monitor while placing the order?

    Not if you order from Dell (you can always ask an eBay or reddit seller), but at this point it is extremely unlikely that you would receive anything older than A02. Matter of fact, I think they're on A03 at this point. I couldn't tell you what the difference is, but I don't see any out of the ordinary complaints about it like I did with the first builds. My S2716 is A02, and I'm 99.9% certain it has a build date some time in late 2015-early 2016. I'd say for sure, but I don't want to move the monitor off my desk, and the box is buried in my basement.

    Can you confirm something for me: when I am in hybrid mode, does connecting an external display cause the 1070 to wake up? i.e. the external monitor seems to be driven only from the 1070 so it seems both GPUs get used together in hybrid mode if we connect a display?

    The outputs are connected to the discrete GPU so it will always be active when an external display is present. The Intel GPU will remain active as long as the notebook's built in screen is on. If you set the system to only show on the external monitor, it will only run on the NVIDIA card.
