I have been using a 17 inch regular monitor, and decided to try a widescreen. So I bought a Samsung at Compusa. I hooked up the monitor, but have not yet installed the drivers (which may be fundamental). My difficulty is that the print size is too small. Also, I may be imagining this, but things seem a little stretched. When I talked to the salesman I emphasized I was concerned about the print size. I was actually interested in a larger monitor for that reason, but he talked me into the smaller one. I had also heard that a 19 inch widescreen was suppose to match up with a 17 inch regular, but the print size definitely is smaller. I was nervous about installing the drivers for fear I would not be able to undo it. I have the resolution set to 1280 by 1024, as the instuctions indicated and I seleced exra large fonts.

Is my problem the monitor size or that I just need to install the drivers? Thanks.

I would try installing the drivers, usually after they are installed the resolution changes to it's native resolution whatever that might be. If it stays the same after then I'd say it's the monitor if you aren't able to change it in the display settings.

Make sure to enable the fixed aspect scaling ratio for your external monitor as well--this will get rid of the stretched appearance you mentioned.

Although it seems pointless having a widescreen monitor if you're going to run it at a non-widescreen resolution...
