Summary of a few important questions. (please read the whole thing there is still more details)

extend gamut....what problems arise when playing games and movies? Good bad? I love details

ZR30w are they going to make a new model soon? or did they coupe out with the ZR2740w?

Response times and games..ghosting etcetera....how do these screens compare.

Are there any other affordable options I am missing that are good?

Hey guy's/gals so yea I am new...no duh right -_- My friend referred me here telling me this was the most active tech forum and one of the best! So here I am! I got a couple questions for you guy's.

First, I do plan on getting a desktop down the road for these monitors hence why I am asking about three but right now I only have money and time for one to connect to my laptop. So let me cover the basic idea behind my ideal monitor setup before I start. This can change if bigger and better and cheaper screens are going to come out....we all have seen what they have been doing recently in the cellphone/tablet section so let's hope that helps us right? ^^

So the Ideal set up is 2 2560x1600 panels with a 1920x1200 panel. The two 2560x1600 panels would probably be the HP ZR30w (S-IPS) because I have yet to see or hear of a cheaper or better screen of that quality. If you guys know different please chime in. Also I heard it averages about 2-3 ghosts which is not to bad for gaming. I would not normally game on it down the road for the lack of gpu power because that would require like 700 bucks plus lol of gpu! But if I could afford to I don't see why not…its better than my horrific ghosting TN laptop screen I am so accustomed to -_-

Now to the main question...for the current monitor I am looking for it need to be 1920x1200 and I want to play games on it too. Three monitors I found that looked good were these but I was weary of their ghosting. Also when it comes to gaming how does the extended gamut effect gaming? I have never seen an extended gamut screen before and have heard some people don't like them. Do extended gamut screens cause problems for games? Because that would also effect the HP ZR30w too. Anyways the two monitors I found were these HP ZR24w(S-IPS) standard gamut and ASUS ProArt Series PA246Q Black 24.1" P-IPS extended gamut. Also the ZR2440w standard gamut (i think).

My laptop currently has a VGA and HDMI out BTW

Also the 1920x1200 needs to be 24-27 inches. Also HP just released a new line of monitors to the market. They released a new 1920x1200 24 inche (ZR2240w) but no new 30 inche 2560x1600. Link below

    UPDATE
I know the ZR2740w exists but its not 30 inches and it lacks 19:10 and the extra vertical pixels. I do a lot of research and web browsing so the screen real estate is essential. I plan on taking advantage of the high res and use operas tile function. It allows you to tile every tab in the browser. So with 4 tabs with can have 4 functioning active windows with 1280x800 res. Have one stock market page open, one website game page open (starfleet command loads of fun), facebook, and email (hotmail). All those open in a single window fully functional. Than a second window with 4 extra tabs for research or whatever for school papers or computers or whatever else......no more 20+ tabs opened ^^ I think the lack of the 3 inches and the lack of 160 pixels would be a problem for that set up......though the price is EXTREMELY tempting. I can nearly get 2 for the price of one ZR30w. So how are the response times of the ZR2740w compared to the ZR30w for gaming? Which screen is better? Personally the extra pixels and inches is huge to me but if the other screen is better quality and is.......nearly half the price maybe i will make the sacrifice down the road. Or are they going to come out with a new ZR30w monitor in the near future? The thing is like 2-3 years old right?

Also the ZR2740w says it has 12ms GTG....is that ligit? thats terrrible. The ZR30w has 7ms GTG and 12ms on and off. The ZR30w on and off is as fast as the ZR2740w GTG? Ok the ZR2740w has 14 ms on off...still worse. Also what kind of IPS panel is this S-IPS/e-IPS/H-IPS/P-IPS/whatever else

So is the response time of the ZR2740 any worse than the ZR30w or does it not even matter? I would like to play games on it down the road if possible plus watch movies. Again what issues arise with the extra gamut for movies?

Important note I will be buying a colorcalibrator for these screens when i buy them.

UPDATE found one review...man this guy is thorough. The ZR24w is e-IPS which has faster response times and cheaper than S-IPS and H-IPS....HP refers to the panel still has S-IPS/H2-IPS for some reason. Also according to tftcentral the zr2440 is e-IPS as well and has 6GTG(overdrive) 12ms no over drive i think. The ZR2740w is H-IPS.

    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr2440w.htm well this looks good

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr2740w.htm ok it has 1 billion colors but is standard gamut??? huh? What is he talking about in the review. I am confused....I thought 1 billion colors was extended gamut.

Bump.....can anyone answer any of my questions? Also I got the Dell U2412m on 1saleaday so i don't need the 24 inche screen anymore but still what are your guys'/gals' opinions?

Second, is there a good program/way to look at screen quality...aka for dead/stuck pixels? I thought someone made a program or set of slides you can run through to help you find dead/stuck pixels. Also what other issues do I want to look for?
