Hey, I know this is a dumb question but I can't find any answers on the internet. It has failed me!!! So I was just wondering, what is mouse acceleration and what is it used for/ what does it do?Thanks.

Mouse acceleration is the change in speed of the pointer over time while the mouse movement is constant. In other words, when you move your mouse at a constant speed, the cursor on the screen will accelerate. This feature is useful if the user has a limited amount of space on his/her desk.

^Pretty much that. If you game, it's a good idea to leave it off, especially in first person shooters, because it's extremely difficult to aim without a consistent cursor speed.

if you look in the control panel under the mouse part, then go to the pointer options tab you can change the acceleration there

I have it off, I kinda got the notion that it was bad for games. Besides, a high DPI mouse is better than increased pointer acceleration any day.

I have been told that, repeatedly, but every time I disable it, I do consistently worse in FPS games. Comes down to how used to it you are, I suppose.
Every time I use my brother's computer (which has pointer acceleration disabled), I always mis-click even outside of gaming.
My general advice is, keep it enabled. If you game, try disabling it and playing around for a while, and if it doesn't work out, re-enable it. -
Yeah, I guess if you've been used to it for a long time you might do better with it enabled. But you can generally perform significantly better with acceleration disabled after you get used to playing without it.
Not all mice use SetPoint.
