Mouse, Logitech M590/720 vs Master 3 for engineer/programmer

Hello,
I currently have a lot of Logitech older gen keyboard/mouse and I really like them. The most advanced one is MX Ergo, which helps a LOT with my wrist pain. I really like the Logitech flow feature too because I can hop from my drafting laptop to CAD laptop hooked up to big screen anytime.

Now, MX Ergo is awesome but trackball does have its limits and I do switch to Logitech M705 occasionally and I always travel with an M570 as a general purpose mouse.

Now, I want a mouse and all I really care for is for it to work with Logitech flow because as much as I tinker with my computer a lot, it's just a nice feature that doesn't require much extra effort from my side and it saves time.

Recently I tried to get a Master 3 at a local auction and that went over the budget I had in mind and I looked at a local supplier and I see M590 for ~40USD, M720 for ~55 and Master for ~90USD and I am also going to get a MX Keys keyboard. I need a recommendation for which one.

Things I like about Master:

• Built-in battery.
• Side scroll.
• "Seems" comfortable.
• Free spin scroll.

Things I like about M590/720:

• Easy to access change device button.
• Cheaper.
• Nothing too surprising as a mouse.
• A place hold the unifying rx dongle

I am intending to use the mouse to replace M705 with Flow feature but I wouldn't mind trying the nice side scroll on Master. I use my M705 for:

• Gaming (trackball just doesn't cut it).
• CAD when my wrist up is up for it (sometimes it's my wrist, somtimes it's my thumb that bothers me).
• Photoshop/Poster/Presentation preparation (I "twitch" with trackball soemtimes even with high percision mode on).

What do you guys think I should get. I really like the idea of side scroll and etc. on the Master 3 but I read it's too heavy for gaming, and M720 seems like a perfect replacement but without the side scroll and I kind of want to switch to non single battery mouse.

 

The MX Keys paired with the Master 3 is about the best non-gaming keyboard/mouse combo on the market.

 

I am planning for Master 2S and MX Keys, and MX Vertical and MX anywhere 2S for now. All used at bargains, except the keyboard.
I think the only things I don't like about Keys are the price and there are no separate media keys like volume up/down, I'll have to go back to Fn+ keys. I want to try Vertical because the tilt on Ergo really helps with my wrist but I don't think it'll be far from what Marathon can do, which is where Master/anywhere comes in but I read Master is bad for gaming... Not that I can game much with my schedule but the day will come haha.

 

The Logitech G915 has media controls. It's slim and low profile like the MX keys, and while it is mechanical, it's not overly loud if you get the red or brown switches. I have the white tenkeyless version of this board and have very much enjoyed using it.

 

G915 looks nice, I wish it also had flow feature.

 

Well, thanks to the Black Friday sale, I got myself a brand new set of MX Keys and Master 3 (~59 and ~55 USD in value). I was so impressed and happy with them, I ordered a second set with different colours just to keep as backups. I also ordered the MX anywhere 3 to replace the "traveling mouse".

I mean oh my... Despite all of the people saying MX Master 3 is too heavy and slow to respond for gaming and etc. Compared to M705, it's just stupidly better.

The only complaint I have for MX Keys so far is the enlaged escape button. It throws the function keys out of alignment and the volume up is where F12 should be and I need to get used to it a bit. Other than that, this is the nicest keyboard I have ever used, my number 1 used to be MK700 but MX Key easily overtakes it.

As for Master 3. This is the nicest mouse I've ever owned, MX Ergo is the nicest trackball I've ever had.

Now, I am going to sell off my M700/M705's and maybe the M570s.

I want to try the MX vertical at some point as well.

One thing in general I do not like about the MX mouse series compared to the "regular" old smooth plastic is the "comfort grip" on the higher tier devices make my hands warm and I really find the texture "gritty" if you know what I mean...

 

I ended up with an MX Master 2S sometime recently for non-gaming related things, and it's one of my favorite mice, although almost all of my gripes are gaming-related. But it's genuinely one of my favorite mice I've ever owned; I can only imagine the MX Master 3 being better in some other things.

Logitech's still got game with their peripherals to this day, and considering my last couple of mouse purchases have been Logitech, I might be stuck to them for the forseable future; just wish I had a lot of use for my 2S currently. I'm moving towards the end of January and my girlfriend will inherit my 2S to replace her Performance MX, so here's hoping she like it.

 

Yeh I don't get what the fuss about Master not being good for gaming. After I got it, and realized how well it was gliding, it became my instant number 1 mouse for performance. Now I have 1 MX Ergo, 2 MX Master 3 and 1 MX Vertical. All for different purposes. I am going to get rid of my MX anywhere 3 now I think.

 

I now also have MX Vertical, wow Linus Tech Tips weren't kidding, I am missing my clicks all the time!

The Logitech flow does get glitchy and gets mighty annoying especially when all 3 computers are in use but so far overall I think the variety of accessories are totally worth it because different part of my right wrist/thumb hurts for me. I guess the next investment would be when Logitech finally comes up with a dedicated left hand solution (I am right handed but I can write as easily with left hand).

have 3 extra M705 and 1 Mk700 to get rid of, surprisingly they are fetching decent price at the local auctions.
