Depends what you want to do with your laptop. Coolers, mice, headphones/speakers.

I was talking a bit more exotic accessories...(Lights, LEDs, coolers, etc) Not mouse, USB drives, etc.

Exotic? Good headphones(300-1500$) and a nice sound Echo sound card with a good tube amp.

    - active/passive cooler - yur cheap insurance that helps improve viewing comfort, typing comfort, and yur notebook's hardware lifespan.

    - mouse & mouse pad - a nice mouse that fits yur grip style and a mouse pad that fits yur control style

    - speaker system/headphone/ear buds - laptop speakers...well...they just suck. :p

    - external monitor(s) - great for watchin movies, playin games, and multitasking.

    - screen cloth - helps keep yur screen in tip-top shape.

You didn't state *exotic* in your OP...You might want to have the thread title corrected to state that..otherwise you are going to have *all accessories* listed. ;)

Get some good headphones, a *sleek* External HD, awesome skin? Sweet bag?

    Cin ;) :)

A decent mouse for gaming, multiple external HDDs for storage and a nice Expresscard soundcard with matching speakers are a good package to start with.

It isnt very exotic but I got a set of creative n400 usb speakers.
nice sound powered by usb and affordable.
this is quite a must need since most of the speakers in laptops are complete crap (my old acer 5920 had quite good speakers tho).
For headphones I mostly use my grado labs sr-80's great sound.

Back when i used to be a hardcore WoW player i had a microwave and freezer right next to my computer desk and was pretty much living on frozen ready meals and microwave pizza. It was times like flight from Orgimmar to Silithus (AQ40) or from Undercity to Badlands (MC/BWL) which gave me those crucial 7 minutes for quick toilet and a bite :D Oh memories, i really was a sad person back then...

Now that i'm not playing that evil game anymore, my room and desk look pretty tidy and boring, so i have nothing to brag about anymore :(

When at my desk, I have all my peripherals that remain at my desk plugged into a USB hub, so I can disconnect that and the power cable and be on my way when I need to take my laptop along.

I have a wireless mouse and keyboard plugged into the hub, and sometimes my external hard drive. I always have a passive cooler/stand for my laptop (made out of Knex ;)), and I always have two erasers in my laptop bag to prop up the back feet if I decide to game.

This product is one which many audiophiles swear by, I use the Creative X-Fi mobile (not the latest one with hardware EAX acceleration) and don't have issue with it. There are a lot of other alternatives but the bottom line is you will hear a difference between the external sound cards and your onboard sound.

i will say something not so conventional

extra power adapter, it is really handy when you can leave one in the notebook bag forever.

docking station is also nice, it keeps all of your "home" usb stuff tidy(printer, NAS storage/Ext. hdd/ mouse/keyboard/screen/etc)
