I just bought my ATH A700 Audio technicas from Buydig.com and After less than week I notice their is some torque to my jack that is causing only one speaker to play sound.... I've only had it for one week, I haven't done anyhing to cause this massive of a problem AND I love them so I just want them to work... should I try to fix them? or can I send them back in for a replacement pair?

Does it play normally on another device?

No I've been using them all week long with no problem, and all of a sudden I am walking with my headphones and My M17x downstairs and I notice the jack is drooping in the audio port...
Total BS since the cable is so thick and it looked really strong... ahhh why does this happen lol I should have sprung 200 for a headphone... BTW when I inspected the jack on headphone it clicks and is loose when I move it and it won't play audio from both headphones unless I support it just right

Crap one of the wires has to have been unatached or broken no? this is just great

Walking down the stairs with headphones and a large laptop is dangerous. That's like walking around with your finger in the trigger guard.
Anyway, that's not good. Perhaps you can return it for another one? -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Hopefully I emailed them... and as far aas staircases believe me I am very very careful

This is not a case of the common problem laptop users have where they do not push the jack all the way in is it??
I have even done it myself, sometimes you have to push hard to get it to go all the way in, its supposed to be flush with none of the metal exposed.
Also this is a headphone problem or a laptop problem? did you try it on some other device?
Besides that, how do you like the headphones so far? -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Tried other headphones and tried each jack...and no I only put it in as far as it is willing to go... They are amazing headphones... or were, now it is kind of a pain to use them as I have to support them a certain way, I really would love to just have a replacement set... let's hope

Here in Japan where Audio Technica is the "major" brand all of their headphones are notorious for that issue.

Well Does anyone know if Buydig is good about this kind of thing... vicious? you linked them... do you know?
-
is it the PLUG or JACK? basically its two different things...if talking abit depth for audiophiles....
plug = headphone part
jack = laptop part where you insert the plug
if you believe that the headphone wire / plug has the problem
can go to local audio store...
tell them to "terminate" your wire.....bascially it just cuts off the part which has the problem , then replace them with new plug .... but the turnoff is , your cable length may get shorter...
costs around $10 ~ $20 -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Problem is I don't have a local audio store... I have best buy, Radio shack not much else... and I don't mind it being a little shorter it is 6-8feet long! And I shouldn't be having this problem within a week of arrival

You should see my 595 cable. It's three meters long.

buydig is a good store, they should give you no trouble returning it, they maybe will ask for shipping fee but you can probably get around that if you say they were defective when you got them.
getting a new cable end would be a good option too I suppose if you want to spend a few $$$ and not wait for the return process and shipping hassles.
also if I am not mistaken the A700 has a removable/replaceable cord? -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
That would be nice... but it doesn't look like it to me...and even a small shipping fee wouldn't be too much of a problem

I would call buydig up today and see what they want to do, its a brand new item with a 2 year warranty so your covered one way or the other.

My A900 has similar issues. I fixed it (to a degree, have to turn it to get good contact) by straightening the jack. My AD700 is still fine. Im very careful with it though. Getting the jack replaced is fairly easy with a soldering iron.

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Alright well Buy Dig said were sorry send them back to us, and well get you a new pair 2-3 weeks after processing
... I asked if they would send me a new pair while I sent mine in, and if my pair didn't arrive they could charge me for both.... but they said no unless I bought an entirely new pair... and then they would only be willing to give me the slightly better ground shipping 3-6days for the price of the normal shipping... not even free shipping lol... oh well I guess crap happens

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Doesn't really matter anymore lol... I ordered another one which they are sending me... and then once they recieve my defective one they will refund my account the cost... minus all the shipping and everything
... so as of now I have spent 240 dollars + on one pair of headphones
-
I would have just terminated them myself, all it takes it a soldering iron(10$) a new plug(2$) and about 10 minutes of time. Theres great youtube tutorials on how to do it too. But I guess its to late for that.

I wouldnt mind seeing one of those tutorials.

It's just like replacing the plugs on network cables, but with a soldering iron.

I know it is very simple... I have reconnected audio wires before... I just would rather have a brand new one... it should come on monday

Theres an entire thread dedicated to it. I build all of my own cables now days, mogami is my favorite for headphone/IC. -
That sucks
I have the same model except open ear version (AD700s) and I really like (just a bit big)
-
the audio technicas are damn good....even my el-cheapo AD500 sounds a lot better than those $100~ gaming headphones...
thinking about going to AD700 as some said it has better soundstage compare to AD500 -

Heh, I ordered them before I heard about the poor bass, it really sucks for me because a lot of the music I listen to is trance
-
I dont think the bass is so bad. I ditched my Senn HD555 for the AD700 because of the bass. It is nice and tight, not boomy but it is still there.
