Warning! This is in no way an objective review. I am not a professional when it comes to hardware accessories therefore I can only add my subjective and personal opinion. None the less I hope it will help others in not committing the same mistake I have.
I have purchased 2pcs ViewGuard 17 Anti-Glare Matte screen protectors. I have installed them both on my new 17 laptops. While I have succeeded to install on of them without any bubbles and debris I was not so lucky with the second one: two little somethings got stuck between the protector and the screen. They are also situated in the lover middle part of the screen and they create two 5mm wide in diameter bubbles quite annoying if the light hits them in the right (or better: wrong) angle, actually.
But you can always peel back the protector and us a sticky tape to remove the debris, right? Guess again.
I have consulted the customer support and videos in YouTube on how to accomplish the process but it was all in vain. I had to find out that the protector is there to stay. There is no way it will budge, no matter how hard I try.
I have updated my situation with the customer service who recommended using my fingernail to gently get under the protector and lift it up that way. Well, for me to do this I would have to disassemble the screen because the frame is in the way. That would void the warrantee of course so that is out of the question.
What I did try way to get under the protector with a thin but hard plastic card not as hard as my nails though but as thin at least. What I have experienced was that the screen wants to come off with the protector: it starts to lift up the whole thing but the plastic card eventually slips off. Talk about a strong adhesive layer.
I have put the other one to the test also. I tried to remove it but that is stuck as well.
Therefore I am stuck with it/them. There is no way I can send back the thing as it is stuck for good. And there is no way I can remove it to be able to enjoy my screen a hundred per cent.
In addition to this the little cleaning cloths they sent with the protectors proved to be utterly useless. After opening up fifteen of them and realising they have dried out some time ago I gave up on them and went to the store to buy a decent screen cleaner.
The micro fabric cloth which came with this cleaner has also proved to be higher quality as I cannot see through it like in the case of the ViewGuard cloth. Not to mention it is royal blue and I prefer that to black.
My experience shows that while these are good products, as I have no problem with the one I have managed to install without bubbles, one only has one go at these. If you fail the first time there is no way back. So you should think twice before trying to install it.
However, if anyone has any kind of recommendation as to how to remove these protectors other than the above methods I would welcome them.
Thank you for reading. I hope it was helpful.
