Hey guys ... I have an Acer 5930G.
I just got the Zalman NC 2000B today and hooked it up.
The temperatures are by about 2 degrees lower than usual.
I don't get it.
I mean I wasn't expecting drastic drops, but this is ridiculously low.
2 degrees is really nothing (which also gets back to previous pre-cooler temps after a time).
The cooler is running on max ... the laptop is nicely seated on the cooler, so unless I'm doing something wrong or got a unit that doesn't really do it's job right, I think I just wasted $92 (it costs that much here).
Any help?
-
how do the vents on cooler and laptop match up?
-
I checked them up.
Looks like the CPU vent was not exactly seated on the coolers holes.
I will conduct a heavier/proper stress of the laptop later in the evening to see if it made a difference.
Also ... I noticed that my laptop fans don't really spin that much when the temps are within 45/52 deg C ... it's only if they go over 60 do the fans start spinning much more.
Any way to regulate their behavior? -
whats the "normal" heat reduction?

Just got back from town.
When idle (and when the fans are running), CPU temps are 51 deg C (Core 0) and 53 deg C (Core 1).
Usually when the cpu reaches those idle temps the fans turn off and gradually the temps rise back up. When they reach 61 deg C the fans kick in and they drop back down.
Obviously there is no need for the fans to be working on a continuous basis so they turn on (or accelerate) when needed.
I just noticed that I cannot really hear the laptop coolers as usual ... just Zalman.
And the temps are at 51 deg C for core 0 and 53 deg for core 1.
Hmm ... looks like it's actually doing it's job and that moving the laptop so the cpu vent is exposed to the cooling worked.
If this is so, then I think that Zalman is managing to keep my laptop by about 10 degrees cooler.
I will run Bioshock or Mass Effect for a while to check just high the temps go with Zalman active after about 15 to 30 mins of gameplay.
Then I will test it out without Zalman.
Will be posting screenshots of the temps later in the evening or tomorrow.
I really dislike doing rookie mistakes ... but I am for the moment ill and my concentration is messed up a bit. -

Make sure you slide your notebook down. Its best to get the fan at least partially hit while hitting other vents.
NC 2000B not really doing it's job?
