well I ordered a lapcool 2 along with a sager NP2090 about 3 weeks ago and well I changed my order to a NP5790 an the lapcool 2 is obviously not the correct size for a 17'' laptop. Is there someway I can get this to work out?

P.S. Does a cooler have to be blowing air at a specific spot on the laptop?

You want the notebook cooler to pull air away from the bottom of the notebook. It shouldn't blow in the direction of the notebook at all, ideally.

My Zalman that Gophn always recommends sucks air in through the front and out through the back. It moves the air blown out through the bottom of the notebook away from the notebook so the temperature difference stays higher and heat moves away faster.

I can't really speak to your model. It sounds like it would be fighting the built in fans. Anyway, you probably want to at least try to line up the vents if you can't get it to fit nicely.

actually the air flow should be going towards the bottom of the notebook, not away.

because the airflow of current notebook fans is to suck air from the bottom, then vents the hot air on the sides/back.

The LapCool 2 should be fine as long as the notebook is raised up and not getting any vents blocked (if the notebooks bottom is too close to the cooler).

The Zalman pulls air from the bottom back air and pushes the air to the stage of the notebook.

oh ok...thanks for clearing that up gophn, just to make sure, the placement of the notebook doesn't really matter on what size cooler? Is there any specific place I should put my NP5790 on the lapcool 2? or is anywhere fine..

Most laptops with fans on the bottom use those fans as intake.

Fan output is usually at the back or the sides. Come to think of it, I have NEVER seen a notebook where fan output is anywhere BUT the back or the sides.

So if I'm thinking properly (and I'm pretty sure I am, I own a Lapcool2 and use it on my 17" Alienware) the air should be hitting the bottom of the computer. That helps the intake fans suck in air. This is why raising your computer with bottlecaps or some such device usually improves cooling, it provides the bottom of the computer with increased airflow.

Or, in other words, listen to Gophn.
