Hey guys! anyone of u know if the cryo lx can handle a 12v dc adapter instead of a 5v dc adapter that was included? well.. i orderd some rosewill 120mm from newegg and its 12v.. when i plugged it in my desktop pc through the powersupply it runs at full capacity.. then when i try to plugged it in in the cryo lx.. the fan wouldnt run at full capacity.. cause im guessing the dc adapter that was included in the cryo lx is only 5v.. so anyone of u guys will know if its ok to use a 12v dc adapter to power the cryo lx so that i can change the stock fans to 12v 120mm fans... Thanks!\

also i almost forgot.. if the cryo can use a 12v dc adapter.. where can i buy a good 12v dc adapter? anyone have any suggestion? i live in canada.. are there any local retailers that sells good 12v adapter if not.. how about online? thanks again!

btw i also have another question..cause the rosewill 120mm fans are 12v right.. if i use a 5v adapter with the cryo lx the rosewill fans seems to run a bit slower.. so a 12v 120mm fan that u power using a 5v adapter really runs slower? So are 12v 120mm fans ok to be used with 5v dc adapter? i was just wondering if thats ok or not.. thanks

any ideas what kind of 12v dc adapter can be used for the cryo lx ? im planing to replace the stock fan with rosewill 120mm fans that are 12v.. need help and advice :) thanks

12v and how many amp dc adapter? thanks :)

i just tried plugging the stock fan of the cryo lx to our desktop computer and it seems that the stock fans are rated 12v. the stock fan was running faster when plugged in to the desktop pc...

sigh.. nzxt should have just made the cryo lx to run on 12v so that will be able to get the max rpm out of the 120mm fans :(

It is true. These accessory makers don't realise that we buy these coolers to cool the laptop not to sound all quiet and not cool anything..

Although Ill agree Id like mine to push more air, it does really keep my laptop cool enough to warrant the purchase.

i just got myself a 6-12v 2500ma dc adapter from circuit city.. and when i plugged it in.. the fans were working a lot faster now and alot LOUDER! haha so now i guess my stock fans are running at full speed already because of the 12v adapter :)

btw.. i got my self rosewill 12v 120mm fans from newegg.. and it says on the fan that the amp is 0.4A.. so i was wondering if i put 3 of those on my cryo lx and replace the stock fans and use the 12v 2500ma.. would it be able to run at max capacity? 2500ma = be able to power 3 0.4A fans?

nzxt should be shipping adjustable dc adapter instead of just a standard 5v dc adapter. .so that people have option if we want to run the 120mm fans at max which is at 12v... the adjustable dc adapter i got from the source by circuit city does the job.. i put it at 12v right now to maximize the cooling while playing games.. then i guess if im going to sleep id just adjust the adapter to 6volts so that it runs quieter :)

That is interesting. And might be very worth looking into. Did you have to change any of the circuitry inside the cooler, or simply plug and play. Sounds sweet

plug and play LOL! :) i asked some admin in the nzxt forums and he said that 12v is ok to use. well.. the first time i used the 12v.. it was working right away and much faster and much LOUDER! but the good thing with the universal adapter i got is that its 6-12V so if i want to make the rpm slower.. ill just move the switch on the adapter to 6v or 7.5v or 9v so it will run quieter..well i guess when im playing games ill set the voltage to 12.. then when i go to sleep ill put it to 6v so that it doesnt bother me when im sleeping :) hahah

also, i ordered some scythe 120mm 1900rpm fans today and will be planning to switch the stock fans with those one and see if its better and maybe quieter too? cause when u look at the fan of the cryo.. seems like its a generic one.. dunno what rpm and what amp it is.. cause theres nothing written on the fans!

i tried pluggin in 3 rosewill 120mm fans the other day and all of them are working with the 12v adapter but the 3pin wiring of the rosewill are kinda fatter/wrapped around so its harder to screw the circuit board back in.. then i was looked at my desktop pc and saw the scythe fans 3pin wires were not wrapped so i think its gonna be easier to plugged the scythe fan in the circuit board and screw it back again.. and the scythe fans seems to be quieter i HOPE! haha i was using a 1600rpm .2amp in my desktop.. the one i ordered is the 1900rpm .24amp scythes one..

i was wondering if the amp of the dc adapter matters in powering the 120mm fans? If yes, its because the 6-12dc adapter i got has a 2500ma so im wondering if it would be able to power 3 120mm fans with .24 amp each?

    Thanks

I've seen a lot of XPS comments, here's another brand for comparison. I use this cooler on my Alienware M17 (specs below) and had a 6 to 8 degree drop in GPU temps over my previous 2 coolers (one a Targus chillmat, the other an XBrand Laptop Lounge - I like the Cryo LX muxh better!

Better cooling performance, better looks, more solid construction. Only downside is it IS heavy, but hey, it's not like we have tiny little laptops to start with.... :)

Any AW users out there, this one works well for me - and if you have an Orion messenger bag, the bag will hold your M17 plus the cooler pretty easy.

Is anyone having problem with the speed control on the LX? My friend just got his and when plugged in with the AC adapter max fan speed isn't where its suppose to be, its more in the middle of the dial. Also when using the USB to power it, the max speed position changes and when you turn the dial all the way down it shuts the USB ports off. This can't be normal can it?

Just got my new Cryo-LX last night and ran some testing at idle and max CPU load using Orthos using no fan, min fan and max fan.

Interestingly on my M1330 (which is dwarfed by the cooler) at idle with the fans on either min or max it lowers the temps quite a bit, however, under Orthos I actually get better temps with the fans turned off!

I was using a Coolermaster X1 up to this point, which was just the opposite. That said, I still get better temps under full Orthos load with no fans running on the LX than I did on the X1 with fan at max. I think it has to do with the open design of the LX vs the closed body of the X1 (closed outside of the fan duct that it) and the location of the CPU intake vent on the M1330.

Either way, I'm happy, just odd to actually turn off the fans to get lower temps under heavy load.

BTW, I tried moving the laptop around the top of the LX to various spots lining up vents, etc. Just cooled better under heavy load with the fans off, just perched on the cooler. Still 10C cooler than sitting on the desktop and 5C cooler than using the X1 with fan on.

One of the great things about the NZXT cryo is that the chassis acts as a giant heat sink. Why you got better cooling with the fans off is beyond me, but still nice you got noticeable drop in temps.

Im thinking about getting some better fans, anyone notice a difference on the standard 2 usb power with new fans?

Yeah, I thought it odd myself when I was testing, but as I watched the HWMonitor numbers start to drop when I turned off the fans, there was no doubt (and I checked, there was no throttling going on due to high heat).

Again, at idle with the fans on it definitely runs cooler than with the fans off.

Either way, its still cooler than the desktop or the X1 with the fan turned on! So its a keeper in my book. ;)

I ordered this from Amazon and right out of the box the fan control speed didn't do anything, seemed like it was running on low. I put in an exchange request and got the new one in shortly after. The new one worked like it was supposed to but after a day of use it started shutting down on me. Sending this one back too. Not sure if I'm going to bother for a 3rd or just get a refund. :(

I've heard mostly good things about this cooler and I'm wondering if it's just me or maybe it's a bad recent batch.

Funny enough I'm actually getting cooler temps propping up the back of my M1730 on two little pieces of wood than I was with either cooler.

    Hi houstoned.
I have the HP Pavilion dv7 2230ev, do you think it fits the cooler? its a 17.3 incher.......also the thing that bothers me is the gpu and cpu. you can see the graphics card on these pics its on the upper left corner (well, upper right if turned upside down). I dont know where the location of the cpu is but i really want to know if it will cool the gpu and cpu (can you tell me where the cpu is???) I really want the gpu and cpu to be cooled efficiently, i play a hell lot of games..............i will upload the pics in a few minutes

    here are the pics

sorry for taking so long to get back to u. i'm not very familiar with HP's as i have only owned 1 HP laptop. from the looks of it, and some random googling, i am pretty sure the CPU is near the vicinity of the GPU. it is towards the middle/rear of the notebook.

yes, the cryo LX will hold this notebook without a problem (can handle laptops up to 19"), and cover all of yur dv7's GPU & CPU vents effectively.

oh and something else. i am not sure what direction are the laptop's fans are blowing(probably down). Is the cryo lx blowing upwards????If so, is there a way to reverse the fans direction???

The Cryo blows air up (toward the laptop) if you wish to change the direction probably just open it and turn them around (you might have to play some with the cables but since they are square shouldn't be much of a problem).

i am almost positive that the laptop's fans draw air from the bottom of the laptop and exhaust it out the rear or side.

Hello there. Any dv7 users to say whether this was a good option?

Like the user on the last page said, we have a serious problem on the top left corner of the notebook (top right if flipped upside down), as it gets very hot just by regular use (internet, office, etc), and gets ULTRA hot by gaming. And it doesn't only get hot on the bottom part, it is also very hot on the upper part.

I currently own a Thermaltake Notepal Massive 23-LX, but the massive cooler doesn't reach that region, so it's pretty much useless, I think.

I really want an advice from someone who has used it on a similar notebook so I don't waste money again.

Below is a picture of the bottom of the notebook, with the hottest area in red. I must also remind that the battey has a kind of an elevation, which keeps the notebook in an angled position by default, as you can also see on the picture.

    Thanks!!!

I have the same laptop and I´m going to buy the Cooler Master Notepal U3. The Cryo LX is nowhere to be found in Europe ATM.

The U3 has 3 detachable fans that you can place anywhere plus it´s a lot cheaper that the Cryo LX.
