I need a wall mount surge protector for my laptop (Asus n61jq) and a 2 TB hard drive. Those two will always be on there. But I also might have some handhelds connected too, like charging a Nintendo DS and a smartphone.

I was thinking about buying this one:

Amazon.com: Belkin Pivot Wall Mount Surge Protector with 6 Outlets: Electronics

    Or this cheaper one:

Amazon.com: Belkin SurgeMaster 6 Outlet Wall-Mount Surge Protector: Electronics

Which one do you think is better?

I think the first one is more expensive because of it's more detailed design. The 2nd one is more simple, but it looks like it can do the same job as the first one, but I am not too sure.

    Let me know please!

it is important to realize that the cheap ones only protect against a small amount of joules and voltage. I recommend skimming wikipedia on how they work and understand the ratings. I can't tell you what is a quantitative good rating because i don't have a clue. I have a cheap walmart one that is good for like 330 something i forget. I wouldn't really trust that for anything expensive in the 100s of dollars but it works for lights, vacuums and the likes. I also don't buy into the 40-60 dollar ones.

The one i am actually using on my R4 as a tempory one is only 330v so i hope it is good enough -_- It is the one i carry in my backpack.

I have an number of multi-socket surge protectors for my electronics but they have to be plugged into it to be protected, i found this new protector and it protects any elecronic device within a 10m range on the same circuit whether it is all smoke and mirrors i don't know but i found one on ebay for £5 delivered.

i think that is like a whole house surge protector concept. It could be fake i don't know but i could speculate that it causes a constant draw or ground or something. Not sure but i know whole house surges do exist but again....no clue if this has anything to do with that.
