    Hey,

So I'm after a new mouse for my laptop, and what's important to me is being able to keep using the mouse on the move without having to constantly buy and then carry around another set of batteries. That being said I don't want to be restricted by a wire all of the time since I'll be using it on the move, and wires just get in the way!

I'm aware that wireless is generally better, but my laptop has internal Bluetooth so a Bluetooth mouse would probably be my first choice, since I then wouldn't need to take up a USB slot. However, I could settle for a decent wireless mouse if it could be charged or linked up via wire if the batteries die - like I mentioned earlier, it's important that I can keep working with a mouse without having to buy extra packs of AAs, so a wireless mouse with that capability would probably trump a Bluetooth alternative.

I'm not much of a gamer these days so I don't need super high DPI or anything like that, although I have looked at the Orochi and the wireless Roccat Pyra. The Orochi seems to have an overly aggressive sleep timer, but is Bluetooth and can be wired if needed, whilst the Pyra is wireless but has a micro USB charging cable which is a huge plus.

Has anyone have any experiences with either of these mice or have any alternatives that can be charged or wired when needed?

    Thanks guys :)

I've used both the Pyra (wired version) and Orochi. The former had USB issues. Sometimes it would work on my machine, sometimes it wouldn't. I don't know if you're in the US or not, but tech support is very tough. The company is responsive to e-mails, but if you need to send something back, it's not worth the time or effort since they don't have a presence here. If you're in the EU, then this isn't an issue.

The Orochi didn't stay because of the overly aggressive sleep timer, which you mentioned. I also don't care for Razer's software. The layout is nice, but its constant need to read and/or write to the onboard memory whenever you do anything to it is a real pain.

If you're not worried about the overall footprint of the mouse, I have to recommend the Logitech G700. The USB receiver is tiny, and you still have full control of the mouse whenever it's plugged in. The only major downside is the battery life. Because it only uses a single AA, you'd be lucky to get a couple days use out of it before you need to recharge. I invested in a set of high-capacity AAs and a good charger.

Despite this, the G700 is one of the best mice I've ever used. This goes back to my old PS2 Logitech Mouseman Plus.

Thanks for your feedback, I wasn't expecting someone with experience of both mice to reply!

I'm thinking of just throwing the idea of an Orochi away, the sleep timer would most likely be an issue and the wired mode doesn't actually charge the mouse so I'd still end up having to buy extra batteries anyway.

How was your experience of the Pyra when it worked? Obviously you had the wired version, but did it feel nice to use and seem responsive etc?
There hopefully wouldn't be too much of a problem if an issue occurs with the mouse since I live in the UK.

The G700 does indeed look to be an awesome mouse, I've noticed it's been brought up in almost every thread on this topic, but I think I'd prefer something more travel-sized (sorry, should have mentioned!)

When it did work, I enjoyed the Pyra quite a bit. I have small hands, and it was a great fit. It was comfortable to use for long stretches. (Side note, while the G700 is a much bigger mouse, it also fits my hand comfortably). Since the Pyra only goes up to 1600 dpi, it wouldn't be good if you use insanely high settings while gaming. Since you're in the UK, retail availability of Roccat stuff shouldn't be an issue. I'd say go for it. :)

Cool, I'm glad it was good otherwise.
I may just have to go for it, I can't seem to find anything else that fits my needs. Also, I actually have the Roccat Kova for my desktop, together they look like older and younger bothers :D

I actually use the Logitech G700 while traveling, which seems to fit your needs perfectly. It recharges and runs via USB, but it also has the wireless dongle for nice wireless use. It's got an overabundance of buttons, but they can be handy ;)

    Non-Gaming Mosue: Logitech Performance MX
    Gaming Mouse: Logitech G700

Both mice can be used wirelessly, and charged via included USB cable. Very comfortable, full-sized mouse for those who prefer the "palm" grip. Lots of buttons, different profiles, adjustable DPI / sensitivity, etc. Both have a selectable scroll wheel style, which let you toggle between notched scrolling motion, or free-spin motion.

If you don't game much, I would lean towards the Logitech Performance MX. It has the advantages of longer battery life (I get about 2 weeks of use before recharge), has Darkfield imaging which lets you mouse on glass, and is less expensive than the Logitech G700.

If you do game, Logitech G700. It has the advantages of much higher performance (higher DPI sensor, higher USB polling rate), support for more config profiles, and transmits *data* over the USB recharging cable in addition to recharging the batteries (the Logitech Performance MX only uses USB cable to charge). This is in case you operate in environments with a lot of 2.4Ghz wireless interference, like at a LAN party or near microwave ovens.

I would actually stay away from Bluetooth mice. Just because it's the "newest" technology does not mean it is the best. Out of the three mouse connectivity technologies (wired, 2.4Ghz wireless, or Bluetooth), Bluetooth is by far the WORST mousing technology. The only advantage I can see to Bluetooth is that it doesn't use a USB port. But anybody serious about computer mice stays away from Bluetooth.

I have an Orochi, the sleep issue is not bad at all with the new firmware.

Still I would recommend something like the Logitech VX Nano over the orochi its super small nano usb plug is nice and no bluetooth hassles or issues.

I just got the Orochi and I have to say for me the lag is pretty bad. I mean i just can't ignore that "jump" it makes every time I don't use it for 4 seconds. Also, when I game in wireless theres huge lag spikes that make it unplayable. (maybe it's just me)
