I prefer and use a backpack, especially for a 17". When my 8lb notebook is on my back I can hardly feel it. As far as brands go, I have a Targus and it works great and feels comfortable. Its best to go to a store and try them on to see which one feels best.

case is heavy and really bugs your shoulder. i tried to carry mine to my frined's house (about few blocks) ouch.....
sleeve is convient but less protection, no other pouches unlike other cases or backs maybe some small pockets for mouse and stuff.
backpack is more comfortable than anyother and can carry other stuff as well
so backpack or sleeves... try to search on the ebags or something sry i forgot the name

I'd also recommend the Kensington Contour backpack.

After carrying around a regular shoulder bag for a long time, the backpack is really the way to go. You'll really appreciate it when standing in line at the airport or something!

I had a heck of a time finding a backpack for my dv9000 (now it's a dv9500). The biggest problem I found, next to the lack of options, was that most of the options were just completely ugly.

I really liked the Wenger backpack, but although they claim it will fit a 17" laptop (and it *technically* does fit), it's just too close for comfort. The corners are pressed against the edge, giving you no protection at all. If it had an extra 2 inches in length, and it would be great.

I wound up getting a Booq bag. The thing is pretty big, still a little ugly, and really expensive, but it was still the better option out there. It has a really nice padded section for the laptop, and provides good padding all around. It has very good shoulder straps and even a waist strap. A high quality product.

I use the Targus TXL617 XL Backpack for my dv9000T...there is a TON of room in that bag. I use a Sumdex impact case, drop the laptop into that, then place the whole thing into the Targus' laptop padded area with room to spare on top and each side. When I'm going out of town for work, I also pack in my Deskjet 460wf, and a couple cases that contain power supplies and cables, paperwork, a 2.5" mobile hard drive, a Targus podium laptop cooler, and Logitech VX Revolution mouse in the side pocket- and there's room for my mp3 player, spare battery for the PC, charger for my cell, etc.

Tops out pretty heavy, but if you want to fit the laptop with room to spare, that bag will do it.

I have a New Sumdex Impact Case if you are interested. I bought it originally from Neweggs thinking I'd be getting a dv8000 (another 17inch widescreen laptop). But I bought a dv6000 instead. (15.4inch widescreen) Give me a pm if yoou are interested.

A backpack is cool for young guys but it wont fit the style for a person like my dad. He has to go along with a Messenger Case or a Roler Case for a laptop like dv9500t. Any suggestions ?
