    Hi guys,

I'm looking for a waterproof notebook sleeve for my 15.4" MSI GX540 Laptop. I travel only by bike or on foot, so this is necessary. I would like something that I can place in my backpack. I don't want to buy a new backpack because I love my current backpack--> Newegg.com - Wenger Gray 15.4" SYNERGY Computer Backpack Model GA-7305-14

Would a big ziplock bag work just as well?

You could also consider a backpack cover. Lots of different options available, for example there: Amazon.com: backpack covers Sports & Outdoor Equipment

That would also keep the other stuff inside your bag dry, books, clothes and stuff like that ;) I'd still cover the laptop with something, the ziplock bag is a good idea.

No idea if this is an option for you. I got a sleeve for my netbook from here:
Kultbag® Schön gebraucht. | Kuriertaschen, Messenger-Bags, Taschen u.v.m. aus recycelten Materialien

They produce individual bags and sleeves from used truck tarp and ship worldwide afaik.

It's absolutely waterproof in terms of rain (though I'm not sure if the zipper cover will work if you submerge it in water). I go a lot by foot and by bicycle and was in several heavy rains or even got splashed by cars and trucks.

Bitte mein Deutsch ist nicht so gut. Ich kann ein bisschen verstehen...40E ist zu teur fuer mich. :(

40E is a bit expensive for me. Curiously, it rained quite heavily today. I had the laptop in my bag and just an umbrella for protection. The laptop was in an anti-static bag and remained dry. If it does not stop raining now, I will either leave the hardware at work or wrap it in grocery bags. Super ghetto but beggars can't be choosers.

Absolutely, it just won't look as pretty.

As a matter of fact, I keep a large heavy duty bag in the bottom of my laptop case just in case I ever get caught out in the open in a thunderstorm. In Florida, those things can pop up in minutes. If I'm walking when that happens, the last thing I want to have to worry about is water seeping into my laptop.
