I just got a XPS M1330 notebook but the belkin bag that came with it only holds the laptop. I need a big bookbag I guess that could hold the laptop AND atleast 1 1000+ page law school book, possibly 2.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not sure exactly how large your 1000 page law books are but I would recommend
the Manhattan Portage 17'' West Side 17" Computer Bag. It's a good looking laptop messenger bag and has enough room for my laptop, 8 140 page notebooks, pencil case & 2 calculators, a binder and then room for lunch/water bottles in the flap pocket. There is still room for MP3 players and stuff because of the number of pockets. It gets heavy before it gets full. I know it's for up to a 17 inch laptop but I have had no trouble with my 14 inch so you should be right. The 17 inch version only comes in black.

Here's a link to the manufactures product page:
    https://www.manhattanportage.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=196

There is also a 15inch version but it only has half the storage capcity (500 cubic inches as opposed to 100)

If your laptop is 15.4" then get Targus Matrix.

Its a new Breed of modern laptop bags which expand as u use them & compress back to normal when u remove your stuff.

Its the best Laptop bag, looks Chic & yes its little expensive compared to normal bags.

I am using Targus Matrix.. bought it at IT show for good price.

It expands as u use it & thats why i bought it.

& it has 4 large compartments for All kinds of Books & documents.

U can stuff anything u like in it.

    Is the Targus Matrix water-resistant?

I have a Kensington Saddlebag, look it up in the forums there is a review on it.

It can carry up to a 17" notebook, which might be overexadurated as my 15.4" can be a squeeze, maybe due to the oversized battery on it. But either way a little 13.3" will fit in that without a problem.

In front of there you have a considerable sized compartment, where i carry several textbooks which are about 500+ pages thick as well as a smallish sized binder folder. I have found the limit to what i can take with me is not what i can fit in, but what i can carry. However due to the padded arms, and the way the bag distributes the weight this is supprisingly more than i could carry when i used a sport backpack, while the laptop in a case inside of it, plus all the text books.

You then have reasonable sized sie pockets and one at the front, and the usual area with load of pouches which i use to keep my mouse, power cable and any other little bits in one place.

Either way it is a great bag, and will easily be able to carry the weight and fit the weight in it of those text books.

It also does have a water resistant coating on the outside... well at least i believe it is, but i have been stood for 30 minutes in the rain before now and no water has got inside and the outside hadn't soaked it up. So i guess it is.

Check it out. you won't be disapointed.

I don't remember if mine is called a Matrix, but I have a Targus bag just like yours but made to fit a 17" notebook; I have had a 17" notebook, a 15" notebook [plus A/C adapters], various folders, books and CDs, DVDs, etc. all in it at the same time and IT FITS {heavy as all get-out but it fits :D }.

Highly recommended, maybe even consider the one for 17" notebook and put your 15.4" in a neoprene sleeve first for extra protection.

Another option you can consider is getting a notebook sleeve. Then the bag you're looking for doesn't necessarily have to be designed for a notebook. Another benefit is that your bag will most likely not be stating "Hey I have a notebook inside of me".

    Just my 2 cents...

I have this for traveling. Holds up to 17" notebook but has a divider in the laptop compartment to divide for smaller ones. Has a compartment for clothes that would easily hold 3 large books. Front is ready to take pencils/pens. Good price and better then average build quality.
Has handles, shoulder strap, and best of all...collapsing handle and wheels.

    Update:

I got the Targus Matrix on Wednesday and took it to school on Thursday loaded with my XPS M1330, 2 case books, supplement books, and a bunch of other stuff like laptop charger, etc.

Carrying what should be a good 25-30lbs on my back felt like air. Unreal!
The Matrix was also a stability champ! i put it down on the train, on the floor, anywhere and it never wavered.

    Score: 10/10

If you need to carry a laptop, books, whatever. This is THE bag.
