I've had very good luck with my Timbuk2 Q backpack. Could give that company a look-over.

I am going to be in this boat but i have been looking at sling packs, seem's they are hard to find good ones, but i did come across this fishing site that has 2 nice ones but the smaller one may be too thin and taper too much at the top.
I did email them asking for more specs
DIMENSIONS: 19” x 12” x 1.5”
Headwaters Sling Pack - Simms Fishing Products

The larger one:
DIMENSIONS: 20” x 14” x 8”
Headwaters Large Sling Pack - Simms Fishing Products
i like the back piece as that could be used to hold the power brick.
Or another larger one but the Ext size is just enough so internal may be too small
External Size: 16.9" L x 10.6" W x 3.1" D (43 x 27 x 8 cm)

What about your Oakley went wrong? Based on your OP you'd almost think it was still fine
If it's durability you want, might want to look at Mission Workshop backpacks. Pricey, but they're made to be messenger bike backpacks so they're quite durable.
Need a good/durable backpack for...
