I'm getting tired of using my trackpad and am looking for a wireless mouse (non bluetooth). I primarily use my laptop in my lazy chair :) without a lap desk, actually I use a book that shields from the heat. The only area I can use the mouse on is the textured material that covers the arm of the chair. Is there a mouse out there that works well on carpets or other such materials?

I use that "Cordless Trackman Wheel" found in the logitech link above while sitting on my sofa. I've had it for a long time and it still works great, just needs a new AA battery every couple of months. You can set it on the cushion, on your lap, wherever. It didn't take me much time to get used to using it and I can use it as quickly as using a mouse. I'm much slower when using a touchpad.

thanks for the info, folks. Cin, is the 6000 even in stores yet? I'm in Canada and looked around London Drug's and Best Buy and couldn't find it. Mother's paranoid about shopping online so she has to buy it from a store.

All you need is a laser mouse instead of an optical. You can get cheap ones at best buy or what ever that will do the job.

Trackball is the way to go. I also use the trackman wheel wireless. Been using a trackball for 10 years now. Regular mice make me angry! Just kidding. .02

My vote also goes to the Logitech V450 (I have the standard, non-Nano version which still works great). Might I suggest though that it works on "almost" anything. Try it on a glass surface and you'll know what I mean.

I'd also like to suggest (the quite pricey) Logitech MX Air Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse. It works on any surface including air, but is used more for PC entertainment (like a remote control).

Also, like others, I think any Microsoft Mouse with BlueTrack Technology should work fine on most surfaces.

The MS 6000 is available in U.S. stores- I bought one on sale at BestBuy a few weeks ago.
My wife had the Logi V450 nano and it is a nice mouse too. In performance I think they are pretty much equal. The MS is the same size as the Logi but it works a bit better for larger hands because of how it is made. The MS scroll wheel is a bit touchier than the Logi.

I have the Logitech MX Revolution, it is blutooth capable but comes with a small usb receiver that works very well. The mouse is very responsive on a number of surfaces including rough textured furniture fabrics. I use it alot and it holds a charge for about a week before needing to be plugged in to the charger.
When needing a charge, it only takes minutes, then you are ready to go again for another week.

When I first got it was disappointed in it's performance on various surfaces, cleaned the optical thing with a q-tip and it's been great since.

I'm going to advise a trackball for your situation.

Yeah sure, most optical mice work on most surfaces but you probably wont have that much space to navigate the mouse anyway.
