I was looking for trackball, specifically the Logitech Cordless Trackman Optical, but I saw a picture of the receiver, and it seemed far too large for what is a semi-stationary notebook. I just need something I can carry around the house. I plan on doing a moderate amount of gaming soon and have BT, so would I be safe in assuming that the Logitech VX Revolution is a safe bet. I'm concerned about the vulnerability of the dongle/port more than anything else really.

The VX Revolution isn't a bluetooth mouse and the receiver is about the size of a small USB memory stick.

What's the receiver like on the MX revolution, is it a stationary receiver, or a dongle?

As mentioned above, the receiver for the MX Revolution is basically the same as a USB memory stick. But, it has a separate charger for the mouse. This is not connected to the computer in any way.

If you are really concerned about the receiver, then get either a bluetooth mouse (if the laptop already has bluetooth), or a Logitech VX Nano. The receiver for the VX Nano sticks out of the USB by about 5mm.

It's good to know that both the VX and MX have dongle like receivers. That makes things easier. I'll probably get one of those as I think the Nano, while having an awesome receiver, looks incredibly tiny for my hands. Thanks everyone.
