Hi all, getting a new lappy, probably the NP8690 Sager. Either way.. I need help deciding which new mice to buy.
Main uses - Occasional heavy gaming, internet clicking around etc.
Estimated usage per day - 4 hours minimum.
I'll be travelling every 6 months so it can't be fragile or something either.
Price range? Since I'm already spending $2000 or so on a new laptop, I don't want to buy a $150 mouse... so max range of say $100 unless more is an absolute must.
Cheers!

Check out Razer's mice. They've got something like 12 different mouse models right now; there's definitely something for everyone there.
Do you prefer the palm or claw grip? How many buttons do you want? Do you want an ergonomic right-handed mouse or do you like ambidextrous designs (necessary for lefties)? Does wired/wireless matter?
My top Razer mouse recommendations:
DeathAdder: This is pretty much Razer's iconic gaming mouse. It's ergonomically designed to fit the right hand, and has a 3,500 DPI optical (not laser) sensor, the highest sensitivity optical sensor in any mouse, ever. It's got the normal two clicks and a scroll wheel, as well as two auxiliary buttons on the left side, for thumb clicking. Its shape is perfect for the palm grip, although you'll have no trouble with the claw grip if that's your preference. It also features a braided fiber cord. This one is $60, and worth every penny. I've been using the DeathAdder for a long time, since its original 1,800 DPI version.
Lachesis: I have no concrete numbers to back this up, but I would say this is Razer's second most popular mouse, and it's a perfect counter to the DeathAdder. The Lachesis has a symmetrical ambidextrous shape, with 9 buttons total: the two clicks, a scroll wheel, two buttons on either side for thumb or pinkie use depending on which hand you're using, and two in the center just below the scroll wheel. It has a 4,000 DPI laser sensor, and is slightly pricier than the DeathAdder at $80.
Mamba: The Mamba is Razer's flagship mouse right now. Ergonomically, it's identical to the DeathAdder, but with two extra buttons on the top left, and a much more sensitive 5,600 DPI laser sensor. And the more obvious difference is, the Mamba has dual-mode wired and wireless functionality. The best part is, its wireless performance is identical to its wired mode performance. Same DPI, same 1ms response time, everything. The only drawback is the battery life isn't very long, and the charging cradle isn't very portable. It's definitely the first of its kind. It may be a bit out of your budget, though, at $130.
Imperator: This one is brand new; Razer only released it last month. Like the DeathAdder and Mamba, it's right-hand oriented. It uses the same 5,600 DPI laser sensor as the Mamba, and has a new feature not found in other Razer (or indeed, any) mice: the positions of the side buttons are adjustable. It's a nice choice if you want the Mamba's sensor without the Mamba's price tag, at $80.
I suggest you go to Best Buy if there's one near you; they often have some of these mice on display for people to get a feel for. -
I just picked up a Logitech G9x, think they're about $75 at newegg right now. It is a fantastic mouse, up to 5200dpi, weight adjustable, two different sized grips come with it. Very impressed with it. Check it out too.

Also, Razer mice definitely hold their own in performance. I know this particular test is a couple years old, but the original DeathAdder beat lots of other mice (including Logitech's own flagship gaming mice) at perfect control speed, the physical top speed at which you can move the mouse without any tracking errors:

So, I don't know which "fancy lighting" mice you consider inferior, but I can assume it's not Razer. -
Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
I paid $45 for my Deathadder brand new on sale. -
-
Yea its gonna be a whole new setup for me. A new laptop, just bought some new BOSE headphones today, and need a new mouse. Expensivo.. but I expect them to last for 4 years. The deathadder does seem decent enough for my cause.. and it does kinda resemble my last mouse.
Is it still only 1800 DPI still? -
timesquaredesi MagicPeople VooDooPeople
logitech vx nano ftmfw!
-
and no, it's not 1800 dpi still. It is now 3500dpi with 3.5G infrared sensor.
I have the 1800 dpi one. It feels really nice, comfortable etc...
you know what the bad thing is though?
you wouldn't be able to use cheap mouses after using one of razer's mouses -
I really like my Logitech V450. It's the best feeling mouse I've owned (very sturdy, rubber sides, nice weight), and being RF it's also great for portability. It, however, doesn't have additional fancy buttons, which is the way I like it. It's $49 here in Canada.

I'd say go for Death Adder or Imperator , since both mouse fits your budget .
also it is better to find mouse that is specifically design for righties since it provides more comfort compare to ambidextrous mouse .
besides , whats the purpose of buying a gaming laptop if you are not going to play games on it? so , i think it is best to use such mouse to enhance gaming experience -
Haha! -
If you have the cash, the Razer Mamba could very well be the best wireless mouse, and wired mouse for that matter, ever made. The wireless @ 1000 mhz has zero lag response time. I have scrimmed with it now in COD and CS:S with no issues at all.
-
Yea.. but I think I'd be over stretching my budget if I went with the Mamba.. unless I can get cheaper than say what best buy sells it for.
-
The Mamba on Amazon is $111, which isn't great, but it's still the cheapest I've seen it. Also, supposedly if you order in the next 2 hours it qualifies for free shipping.
-
That would be great... If I didn't want to spend $100 or more
-
In that case, I definitely think the DeathAdder is the best choice. Good DPI, the best shape ever (in my opinion, anyway), and it's one of Razer's less expensive offerings.
-
the cables on DA and imperator are long and braided , so it wont tangles easily -
Another option is, some places are starting to get stock on the Steel Series Xai. I'm waiting to see how first impressions of others turn out, but Steel Series is making it out to be very advanced as far as tracking. But besides that, it's very simplistic in design. No crazy ergonomics that you either love or hate, a nice simple black soft touch surface, and none of the unnecessary lights that I find so annoying. It doesn't go crazy with extra buttons (simple 5 button design) and a tilting scroll wheel, either.
Unless early reviews are negative, I'll get one to replace my aging Death Adder that has always had a bum scroll wheel/button. That's not a knock on the Death Adder, everyone else seems to love theirs, but I had no luck getting mine repaired and eventually just gave up. -
Well I just hopped into Best Buy today and bought a Death Adder. It didn't feel as comfortable as the Mamba, but comfortable enough, especially when in relation to my last mouse I had. So I'm happy with it, thanks for your help all.

How did it not feel as comfortable as the Mamba? They are physically identical, except for the two extra buttons on the Mamba, and wireless mode. ^_^
Either way, congratulations on an excellent mouse.
