Can anyone recommend a good wireless (bluetooth?) mouse for my 1810T?

(I don't have a USB optical drive, so I think it needs to be something I can just download the driver for)

Do you plan on doing any gaming? Or, is mainly for multi-use? :)

No, no gaming really. I play neo geo roms and Civ 4 once in a while, but nothing requiring really fast pointing.

I've got a Vaio Bluetooth mouse... Vista had the driver built in :)

I think mouses with a little dongle are cheaper though...
If you can spare a USB port, Logitech has a great range :)

I don't really have a USB port to spare (it would be a pain to plug and unplug my mouse every time I need to use my USB drive, which is a lot) so I'd prefer one without a dongle. It shouldn't be a problem setting it up without a CD drive, right?

On my Vaio one it wasn't.
Its pretty much a "standard pointing device" - CDs are generally required when you have funny additional functions, but in any case, you can always check the manufacturer's site, they generally have drivers for download if they are shipped on a CD.

If you want no dongle at all then you should be looking at Bluetooth. Does your machine have internal Bluetooth? If not then a Bluetooth mouse won't help since you would need a Bluetooth dongle.

Unless Acer lied to me the PC has internal Bluetooth. I had to ignore your suggestions, sadly, as the store here only had the MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 as far as Bluetooth goes (and I needed it today, so online is no good). I'll set it up later and post the results, it looks like a good buy.

    Thanks for the help.

I think you will like the MS BT 5000 ~ I also have that one. It was my first venture into a BT Mouse! :) Setup should be fairly easy.

Can't wait to hear your results, and grat's on your purchase!

I just can't get it to work. My notebook isn't detecting it for some reason. I'm holding the bluetooth button on the mouse, I don't know if there's something special I need to do on the PC.

I don't like wireless for the folowin reasons:
    - Its wireless, which makes it easier for my dog to grab iand burry it.
    - Batteries are a mess.
    - You lose precious miliseconds with wireless, which is important for people who care but don't understand it really doesn't matter ;P

Well, you need to find the bluetooth icon and search for Bluetooth devices after pressing th button at the bottom of the mouse.

    Wasn't there a manual?

EDIT: Ok, there's a big physical switch on the front of the PC with the BT logo. For some reason I didn't notice it before.

    Dammit.

    Thanks guys.

Loving this thing so far, wish i had gone wireless ages ago.

Is there any way to disable the automatic sleep mode on it, though? Also, what's the typical range on bluetooth devices?

Sleep mode - don't think so, also, that conserves a lot of batter life.

Range - I think in perfect conditions up to 10m - 2-3m and you should get a good signal :)

It's been my personal experience that the MS 5000 Bluetooth is a great travel/portable mouse, with no dongles to muss or fuss with (I agree with keeping ports available for drives).

What's disappointing is that in the mobile Logitech lineup, there are very few native bluetooth mice, and Microsoft only has 2 for notebook travel-sizes. (your 5000 and the awesome Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000).

Let us know how it's going with the new mouse, or if you have any questions.

Why not go to a random store and look which one fits your hand the best? That's what those mouse packages were designd for.

Edit: I'm addicted to my small logitec mouse, eventhough I outgrew my small girly hands in construction I still like it ^^ (its way to small though).
