I'm in the market for a high capacity External Portable Harddrive (usb powered)

I would usually prefer the WD Element Portable series.

but as of now they only maxed out at 1TB.

Strangely enough, the MyPassport range comes with 2TB for a while now.

Will they update this anytime soon? any idea when?

    --------------

or should i just go with the WD My Passport 2TB?

but if i do this... do the new WD MyPassport 2tb comes pre-installed with a software can be easily remove completely? will the drive works fine without the software (no superfluous light etc)?

i know the old MyPassport series pack the software in separate hidden partition and is a pain to remove or cannot be removed. from what i read, it seems that this is no longer the case (packing unremovable software in hidden partition/firmware). is this true?

also, will the price come down soon? will there any new drive coming up in the coming weeks/months?

if i ask WD support staff, will they have a clue?

    thank you.

    wobble :)

I'm currently using WD My Passport 1TB on Windows (the one with USB 3.0).
The HDD comes with it's own software (WD QuickFormatter and WD SmartWare).
The HDD works fine without installing the software. To tell you the truth, I have never opened those programs before

This is all I know about WD HDDs
    Hope this helps.
