Anybody have any experience with the Northface Surge or the Saloman Laptop backpack? They both seem pretty neat but would like to see what people have to say about them. They're offered at REI. I'm trying to get a pack for college next year and right now its between these two, oakley icon 2.0 (seems that if the laptop fits right next to the back the backpack will feel rigid on my back), or pakuma K2 or K1. let me know what u guys think

Yes, I think I saw both of them when I was at the Rei store recently. They look good. The NF one is long/tall but otherwise look like their usual camping styled bags with the varied little compartments and lots of straps. The Salomon isn't a real notebook backpackand it does not have a notebook compartment though it is well padded and has a stiff outer shell.

The North Face Surge isn't a bad pack. When I was looking at getting a new bag it caught my eye but the price made me shy away. Check out the Ultimate Direction Zoom bag at REI, it's on sale and is much better quality than The North Face bag (but I still like The North Face). If it's worth the money to you get it, if not get a regular bag and get the REI sleeve (it's awesome).
