I'm trying to help someone with a T42 find a way to get USB ports on thier laptop as thier onboard controller seems to be dead. I've tried the USB ports under Ubuntu and the ports are indeed not functioning reguardless of the OS.

I have already tried a T series docking station and even the USB ports on that won't work which is why I believe the whole controller on the T42 is dead.

Does anyone know of a Pcmcia to USB card that does not require an external power adapter that can power an iPod? Supposedly the iPod's use 2w of power and most cards I've looked at only support up to .5w devices without an external power adapter.

If anything is there any other adapter that I can use with a T42 that would allow for at least 1 full power USB 2.0 port?

A whole new motherboard can be had for the t42 for about 80 bucks... then you'd have all the USB ports working again.
