    Unsure if i posted this in the right section (Please help move to appropriate section if wrongly posted).
    I have an SD card which I slot into my laptop for back-up purpose.
    To be exact, its actually a sandisk MicroSD card slotted into an SD card adapter.
    In any case, I think it's corrupted

    I can't format it.
    I can't delete the contents inside of it.

    What I want to do is to format the memory card from exFAT to FAT32.
    I do not need to recover the files inside of it.
    But I do know that I need to fix it first (providing it's fixable) before formatting it.
    Can anyone help me or recommend a good free program that can do this?

    I have tried;
    - Properties > Tools > Error Checking
    (Thinking that this is the tool to use to fix a corrupted HDD but apparently it won't work)

    You can also download a Linux ISO, make it into a bootable CD/DVD/flashdrive, and use GParted to format the card. If that can't read it, then it's likely that the hardware itself is dead.

    It the card is corrupted to the point where you can't partition it, format it, or access it, then it's probably a hardware issue... either with the microSD card itself, or any of the equipment you're using to read the that card (SD card adapter, SD card reader).

    I'm assuming that this microSD card was being used in a smartphone (based on the exFAT formatting) and it didn't work in the smartphone either... probably why you're trying to mess with it on a computer. If that's the case, then the microSD card has failed on two different sets of hardware being used to read that card. It's most likely a defective card. And you won't find software that will repair a hardware-defective card.

    Either send that card back to the manufacturer for a warranty replacement, or buy a new microSD card. The one you have is dead.

    Try formatting the microsd in an camera if you have one and an fullsize sdhc adapter, Cannon brand camera`s have an low-level format option.

    I also have Sandisk (64GB) with exactly the same problem: can read it, but can't delete, format or add any file. Tried everything, nothing worked. I gave up and bought 128gb for about $30 and will just stay away from sandisk. I think it's broken. And yes, tried to format in Canon dslr, used special software, linux among other things.
