First time posting not about my T61p, this is a question about another black powerhouse  ...

I'm planning on buying a cheap WUXGA monitor with HDMI to connect to my PS3 (as well as to my T61p through VGA, and to future custom desktop to DVI)...I've decided on the Acer P243WAid 24" on newegg, because of it's bang for the buck and good reviews...The only thing which it lacks are on-board speakers, and since I'm using it on my desk, I need help finding either good 2.0 or 2.1 speakers with RCA (red/white audio connector) or S/PDIF (not common on 2.1) audio.....can anyone help me out?

Most any computer speakers are going to use a 1/8" male headphone jack connector. At least that will be how it plugs into the computer, the actual receiving end on the speakers may vary or even be hardwired.

Still both are analog and easily interchangeable with a cheap 1-2$ adapter.

Stay away from S/PDIF its digital so it will cost much more for a set with a built in digital decoder and it will be of sub par quality.

So my personal recommendation would be Klipsch Pro Media 2.1's

I would make sure that the monitor you are looking for will scale well for 1920x1080 they all dont.

yep, get the Promedias, I can vouch for them since I own them. they are probably one of the only speakers systems in their price range with a present mid-range, and outstanding lows and highs. They sound like a $500 system to say the least. they are an incredible bang for your buck.

Are there any decent 2.0 speakers with the built-in recievers for RCA (red/white stereo sound) cables available?......I just need this for my room, which is medium-sized and I won't be blasting the sound, so I won't need a subwoofer.

    Thats a good point!

Also why I was really interested in the Benq 24" when I was looking at PC monitors, it beat dell's 24" in almost every way and was one of the very few monitors to have 1:1 aspect scaling.

Dell has since then added this feature in a new revision tho to compete.

I would still get the benq 24" if I wanted a 24" pc monitor, but I was much happier with my final decision to get a 37" westinghouse :p

explain exactly what you want to do here? What are you going to hook to the speakers?

I thought I had covered the fact that a computer uses a 1/8" headphone hack output for sound via its line out or headphone jack and that any pc speakers like the promedias will come with the cords to hook it up.

If you want multiple inputs to the speakers for some reason, first of all your better off investing in a real stereo system probably but you can still do it 2 ways that will have no impact on the speaker inputs.

1.) use the line-in on your computer and then have the sound go out thru your computer.

2.) get a simple toggle box and have all your inputs going to it with the output to the speakers.

The speakers are to be used with the PS3, and I was wondering if any 2.0 or 2.1 speakers had RCA input; or an adapter for it; that's my only question.

Thanks for the suggestions, are there any others?

I believe the logitech x-230 comes with a RCA cable along with it. I'm not completely sure, but I can

check for the fact im at school. All i could remember was that it came with extra cables for something...

The speakers are a 2.1 set up and the bass is powerful. :D

Not true the 2405 had to go thru several revisions not until A04 did it have 1:1 scaling (2407). I remember the 8000 post about the poor component input, banding issues, and no aspect scaling quite well when A01 and A02 were around. A03 just came out before I left the scene and A04 has since then come out and somebody on another forum told me that it now supports 1:1 with the new revision.

    Nope I have a A01 2405 and a A02 2407, they all do 1:1 with no problem.

The only thing I can think of Wiz is that your using it hooked to your computer and your video card is doing the scaling, or you have something like a dvd player hooked to it that also has internal scaling and you only think the monitor is doing the scaling.

I can provide several links about how A04 added 1:1 its also easy to find with google.

there was also a hidden firmware update between a01 and a02 for 1:1 but it never fixed 1080p

OK, which input are we talking about? I know that there is an option to go 1:1, fill and Aspect on the 2405 on screen menu but it's not active on some of the input mode. Is that what you are talking about?

Yeah, that and the 1080p mode issue was not fixed with any input till A04 as far as I know.

Actually you are both wrong and right ;) The 2405 (any revision) could do 1:1, and was/is a great monitor. My bro still has one and it is still kicking butt.

The 2407 could NOT (sorry your A02 version does not, like Vicious said maybe it is your video card doing it?) do 1:1. If you want to double check, there is a setting in the Menu for 1:1 if you don't see or it is greyed out, then you do not have it. It was not until A04 of the 2407 that 1:1 was introduced.

The big complaint was that why was a older model able to do it and not the new one?

+red your right Tusin, the 2407 was the model out at the time when the BenQ came out, the 2405 was the much older model.
