Ok so I just got my new laptop and would like to connect to to the tv in my living room for watching movies and etc. However, that tv is wall mounted, so I cannot get to the HDMI plugs in the back. The only plugs I can get to on the TV are the S video (the red, yellow, and white plugs) and a regular 4 prong composite plug. On laptop, all I have are an HDMI and VGA plug. Will this work for what I am wanting to do?

Will that hook me right up to the tv from the hdmi plug on my laptop? Im new at this stuff so I didnt know, based off the name of those cables, if they were for RCA tvs only or what, anyways any help is appreciated.

Heres the laptop I have if its any help to you: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220525

If you have vga to s video cable. I know they have those, And they have hdmi adapters for vga. So you could connect hdmi to ur laptop, and run s video to ur tv. If thats what ur asking?

I dont know what u mean by 4 prong composite (isnt that an s video?)

I cant see the ebay item on this computer bc im at work. But im guessing it is hdmi to s video and if thats is what youre wondering, then yes, it will work.

I used to do that a few years ago and play computer games on my big screen at home. Hope this helps :)

Found that with instructional video, um I would check out if possible if ur tv is 720 or 1080p cause there are different converters for that, but hope that helps =)

Yes, the ebay item is a HDMI Male to 5 RCA RGB Audio Video AV Component Cable and I would think that this would work, but ive read somewhere that to just use a cable like that, that my laptop must have a TV out function of somesort? anyknow know about this? and you say there is VGA to S-Video, any idea of how much one of those might run me? Ideally though, I want to do the HDMI to S-video like what is on that ebay item, but again, ive read about having to support TV out or something? =/

Well, after doing some research...I guess you cant get hd through s video. Even though there are adapters for vga to hdmi. Thats why I thought there would be hmdi to s video. But anyways the best thing to do is hdmi to dvi..

    Unless theres something Im missing

btw S-video is not the same as the RCA connection. Go look up your gfx card and see if it supports tv out if so then you have it =).

I would try to do vga+audio connection to rca that way you arnt stuck listening to your laptop speakers rather then your tv.

I looked on Nvidia.com and they dont have gt 120m listed...

Its a new card, so I dont see why it wouldnt have tv out. I had the 9800 gt and it did. That card is a few years old.

The 100m gt series just came out recently.

Your video card has TV out. All you need to do is buy the proper cables =). Go to fry's or your local electonric retailer and buy em, thats all =). gl

Even though your graphic card support TV out, the graphic card needs to have a specific BIOS, connector...etc for TV out.

It's like a PC can read CDs, but if you don't have a CD rom or compatible device, you can't read the CDs on your computer.

btw when I say TV out I mean video out, i know this because your computer has a hdmi connection and vga connection. Your only choice is to get a vga to rca connection cable, then you will also need to get something to hook your audio to your tv.

All in all its a lot of trouble, can I ask why you can't move the tv to get to the hdmi connection? You will get a lot better output and definition from HDMI. Also HDMI carries sound so you don't need extra connectors for audio, just one cable. There has to be a better solution like a wall mount or something to safe you all this hassle.

    EDIT

The guy above, um I know what he is saying, but it doesn't help or provide anything important to your question that we haven't discussed already.
