So, my generic pair have died on me and I'm looking to buy some fairly good quality earbuds, earphones, or whatever. Just nothing huge so I don't look like some sort of nerd in public. Ideal price would be $100 AUD, but I can go up to $200 if needed. I will consider getting large (around ear) headphones if they are worth the price though. Thanks.

At 200 Dollars you may find Sennheiser IE8, also worth a though IE7 and IE6 (which are lower down the line but still good).
Read some reviews on the net and dig up some comparisons.
    They are IEMs.

Wow, the IE8's are $577 AUD at the only site that they have them in stock.

Is the Sennheiser CX series good? Because they seem to be fairly good, but they aren't as expensive.

By the way, the only site here that has the IE6 is $236 AUD...

    hmm :(
    That's expensive.
    I got mine at 205€...
Consider IE7 or IE6 then - but read reviews :)

You could got for some Crossroad Hippo VB's. These are getting very good reviews right now, and are said to be one of the best deals you can get in IEM's.

Sorry, I have no idea about the CX series :( I know the CX300 or so are often recommended as decent cheap headphones...
But they can be muddy and bassy from what I've seen

The IE8, IE7 and IE6 are their top line professional IEMs.

Damn, looks like I might have to shell out the $$$ for the IE6's then. Unless there are other brands that deserve my attention.

Definitely have a look around first - Shure is another company... Ultimate Ears... Klipsch...

I just use the Sennheiser - and read up on the IE8.

    Edit:
Beyerdynamics is another company that springs to mind.

These are not my findings, but the findings of someone who's opinion I trust very much(I've tested many headphones on the list, and others he has suggested and I pretty much agree with him.

I ordered mine to Toronto, but I won't be back til mid Dec. :( Do you know what's up with the pre-order status at dealextreme?! I'm about to put an order for the E5...

edit: nm just read their notes below and it seems like they just forgot to remove the words "pre-order". So I just ordered it :)

You can easily search the best earphone for your ipods in internet.. there are many websites which provides detail information and features of the earphones...

Well... you need a few suggestions for which to search.
Just blankly searching for headphones won't give you any good results.

Also: Not all sites offer good reviews - sme people won't hear a difference between Sony EX85 and Sennheiser IE8 (possibly mid range/upper mid range and hih end) while other people can distinguish Sennheiser IE8 vs. Shure SE530 vs. Ultimate Ears Tripple.Fi 10

(I possibly can't do the latter - but I don't know - but my old EX85 and the Sennheiser IE8 are worlds apart)

I suppose it really depends on how much isolation you need. Unless you want a lot of it, balanced armature phones like the Shures and Ultimate Ears are poorer value than the dynamic Sennheiser IE's, etc.

Personally, I'm an isolation guy when travelling so I'd say start with the Shures - which still offers IMO the best compromise between fit, isolation and sound. I would go for the dual-driver models which you should be able to find for around your max budget, because their sound is less obviously compromised.

However if you're looking for something better value in terms of sonics while still offering usable isolation, I'd say try the Sennheiser IE's.

BTW, you can get basically the same effect as a portable amp on an iPod by turning it to about 9/10th of full volume (*not* full volume) or lower as necessary, and using a $20 Shure EA650 to attenuate the volume to your desired levels. Bad for Head-Fi Karma-cred, but no joke.

Thanks for the suggestions people. They have really helped me decide what to look for.

RE0 are good, but lack bass. i added a fiio e5 which makes them much better and is a good imporvement over the ipods inbuilt amp. (i own ipod classic, still has a terrible headphone amp, use the line out to fiio)

cx300 are terrible. i hated them. masses of muddy inaccurate bass, not a lot else. mine are genuine as well (shop bought). avoid.
