Hi all! I am looking for a new headset. I am willing to pay between $100-$200.

I had the sennheiser PC 350 for the last 3 years, and I just sold them to my sister, so I am now looking for new one.

    Any suggestion?

If it was wireless, I'd be more tempted to buy it, but it look so nice! Gonna put that in my wishlist of all eternity xD

I hear the Logitech G930 (i'm getting these) is very good. Although, our NBR bud Vicious doesn't like them, he either got a faulty one or just didn't like it. But it looks like to me that a lot of people are satisfied with the G930.

I just picked up the g930, fired up in CS and its pretty tight. 7.1 works as advertised. Did really use the mic. Will give back more feedback once more time on it. So far, im liking it.

not to hijack the thread but how sturdy is the G930? I like to lie in bed and watch movies on my monitor, and I'm worried that it might break if I lie down on my side with them on.

I recently went on vacation and packed too much stuff in my backpack, such as my laptop, shoes,etc.. with the G930 in the middle. They were perfectly fine. Very sturdy.

The Plantronics GameCom series is fantastic. Under your budget, but I really can't recommend them enough; they sound much more expensive than they are. The 377 is stereo, and the 777 is the same headset but 7.1.

Just got my replacement G930 going to unbox it and take it for a test run now.

If the Mic is as bad as the first one I strongly recommend against the G930 because if the mic sucks so hardcore on a headset, then why get a headset?? save your money and get higher quality at the same time with some headphones instead.

Edit: yep sounds the same. Very low bit-rate mic that sucks at picking up tonality and spectum of my voice and even @ 100% volume does not even go up much higher than 50% amplitude on a recording. The only thing it has going for it is being wireless.

I'm going to say that I think the G930's are good for gamers and non-audiophiles. I've heard mic quality and it doesn't seem that bad to me, but then again I do not have a decked out audio system with epic headphones, so I probably don't know what godly noises sound like. I'm saying this because I see many people who like the G930 but probably aren't audiophiles (or close to being one). I'll order these and if i'm not satisfied I will send them back. Because if sound quality sounds like garbage to an average gamer, than there is something wrong with the product.

Thanks all for your answers. I still don't know what to buy. I am looking at the sennheiser PC 360, but at $299 it is a little bit out of my budget. There was a $100 discount 1 year ago, so I hope this discount will come back, so I can buy it.

I bought my PC 350 in 2008 and it still in perfect condition except for the foam. I never had any problem with this headset. But, now that I have my m18x and my sister now have the exclusive use of my old desktop, she needs an headset. So instead of buying a new one, I sold mine to her, and now I'm looking for a new one in the same quality of my PC 350... or higher! :p

I have a simple question.. Does 7.1 headset only work on 7.1 sound cards? If so, I'll not look at this, because of my 5.1 sound card in my Alienware m18x.

Truth is I preferred the G35 over the PC350 in almost every way. The mic is a little worse, but not by a yawning margin. Since it's still available, and since it's going cheap(er) these days, I'd say it's worth a try. Virtual 7.1 headsets work with a dedicated software driver that simulates 7.1 on the host PC so it will work with any with the CPU cycles to spare (it's like a <1% hit on a modern machine).

EDIT: Since it has more adjustment and accomodates bigger heads better as well as clamping looser (and consequently offering significantly less isolation), comfort might be another win point of the PC350 over G35. I have a fairly large head however and I have no issues with it.

And generally for gaming, I do tend to use the G35's in preference to the MMX 300's I also have (which do have excellent mics, and I do think the premium is worth it for the whole package, since it's quite a bit more than 'pretty much a DT770 with a mic').

How's the sound compared to the PC 350?

Edit: What about the G930? Is the quality the same with the G35?

Edit: And what about the Razer Megalodon?

Punchier. Less diffuse. About as accurate. I understand Sennheiser's reasons for making the 350's character what it is, but I don't think it's an appropriate gaming (or pop/rock music) listening set IMO.

    No idea. Probably worse.

    Once again, no idea.

Right, I'm off again. Won't be back for a while. Hope you find something you like.

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?

    $150-200

    2) What size of headphones?

I'll be wearing them in public so I would hope they won't look completely ridiculous. I'm not too concerned about the size but I don't want to look like I'm directing planes.

    3) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

    a. Like: Sennheiser, Audio Technica
    b. Dislike: Bose, people with Beats by Dr. Dre (jk, but so many people have them)

    4) Will you be taking the headphones with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?

I'll be taking them from class to class. During class they will be resting on my neck or in my backpack.

    5) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this set of headphones?

Classic Rock, Rock, Metal, Alternative, Electronic, Trance, Drum n Bass and Dubstep. They need to be noise cancelling so I can concentrate while studying. I live in the dorms so being able to cancel out any possible sound is necessary. I don't need a microphone since I have a pair of Creative Fatal1ty MKII.

Serious question - are gaming headphones really worth it? I've always just used a crappy pair of $20 headphones from Wal-Mart...Never had an issue or anything. I have really nice monitors since I'm a music person, so I don't typically use the headphones for singleplayer gaming, but for vent/skype, the cheapo seems to be perfect.

It's something you don't notice till you use something better. For a long time I thought my iPod headphones sounded great, then I got a good pair of earbuds and now the iPod ones sound like crap.
